Even though all the state universities were instructed to adopt the process of digital evaluation, only two institutes have done it successfully. Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and Bangalore University (BU) are the only two universities in the state to adopt a digital evaluation process.
After VTU developed its own software to evaluate answer sheets of students, the state government directed other universities to utilize the same software to conduct the digital evaluation. Evaluators can access a student’s answer sheet by downloading its scanned version from the software itself. The software developed by VTU is very cost-efficient and is not time-consuming.
In general council meetings of the Karnataka State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) that took place in August 2019, 19 state universities were directed to adopt the software developed by VTU. Despite the instructions, digital evaluation is still a distant reality in many universities. A source revealed that many universities are willing to float tenders and invite private firms to conduct the process. One such university is the Bengaluru Central University (BCU). The digital evaluation process through the private firm would cost BCU 42 Crore for three years.

Recently BU utilized the software created by VTU for their first semester and the evaluation process got completed in just 3 Crore, including the payment for evaluators. Professor KR Venugopal, Vice-Chancellor of BU confirms the news saying that Bangalore University (BU) has drastically cut the cost by adopting the system and the result was also released without any delay.
The digital evaluation is an efficient process that needs to be adopted by the universities in order to save both, time and money.
