On Wednesday, the school education department issued a Government Resolution (GR) through which it was specified that from current year onwards, no student appearing for Higher Secondary Certificate exam will be considered as failed. Instead of getting the “Fail” mark on the mark sheet, the 12th student who fails to attain the passing marks will be considered as “eligible for re-examination”.

On the other hand, the students who belong to 10th class and who fail to attain the passing marks in the board examination will be given the “eligible only for skill development programme” tag in their mark sheet.

At the same time, the government also specified that for the upcoming re-examinations in the month of July, the students who fail in two or more subjects will be given the “eligible for re-examination” tag while the students who fail more than three subjects will be given the “eligible only for skill development programme” tag.

In context to this, School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad stated that the decision has been made to ensure that no student who fails in the examination fee demotivated due to the “fail” word. She added that the fail word accumulates a lot of negativity in the students and we are trying to spread positivity among the students. The decision has been also made as an initiative to reduce the rate of suicide prevailing among the school students who fail in their board exams.
