QS Rankings: Anna University Ranks among the Top 150 Universities
Anna University is among the top 150 Universities as per the QS Rankings 2020. Among the top global Universities, two other Indian institutes-IIT Guwahati and Jindal Global University, Haryana are also there in the list.
In the most recent release of the top Universities Globally in the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) Rankings 2020, Anna University has been ranked in the top 150 Universities/colleges in the world. Along with Anna University, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, as well as Jindal Global University, have also grabbed a top spot in the QS Ranking 2020.
Out of the top 1000 Universities in the overall category globally, 23 Indian Universities and Institutions are there. The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati takes the first spot among them by being placed in the 71-80 Rank group. Both Anna University as well as Jindal Global University have been placed in the rank bracket of 101-150.
As per the statements made by the Vice-Chancellor of Anna University M K Surappa, he said that the varsity was able to achieve the 12th rank among the 23 Universities that are there in the top 1000 Universities in the world. He further stated that Anna University has been able to achieve the 9th rank when it comes to the criteria of citations per faculty. He told the sources that various Indian Institutes of Technology in India have captured the first 8 spots among the 23 top Indian Universities in the world.
Surappa stated that to improve the rank, Anna University will need to improve on their teacher-student ratio. State Universities of Delhi and Pune have a better teacher-student ratio than Anna Universities. He stated, that Anna University is the only state university that has been ranked at such a high level. For this purpose, the University will be recruiting more faculty members so that the teacher-student ratio improves.

The QS rankings are based on 6 major factors which include, academic reputation, citations per faculty, teacher-student ratio, employer reputation, international students and faculty with the highest weightage, i.e. 40% given to the academic reputation. However, since there have been many issues that have crept up in relation to the colleges affiliated with the varsity, Anna University experienced a bad score in terms of employer and academic reputation.

The Vice-Chancellor mentioned that some of the areas that they will be focusing on majorly include the employer and academic reputation as well as the teacher-student ratio. He added that they will also work on improving the number of international students as well as the international faculty present at the college.
