SPPU Receives Rs. 100 Crore Grant from Centre
- SPPU will use the funds to introduce new research programmes and projects and to improve the quality of education.
- As per the reports, higher education institutes in Maharashtra have received a total grant of Rs 340 crore under RUSA.
The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has received a Rs. 100-crore grant from the government under the Abhiyan Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha (RUSA) for their excellent performance in research and its high ranking in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
The university will use the funds to introduce new research programmes and projects and to improve the quality of education in the university. It will also hire new faculty and introduce new courses from the next academic session.
Vinod Tawde, Higher and Technical Education Minister, stated that higher education institutes in Maharashtra have received a total grant of Rs. 340 crore under RUSA . He also said that the draft plan for higher education will focus on the autonomy of institutes, introducing new techniques and research projects and to develop latest methods to evaluate performances.

He further informed the authorities that the state is in the second phase of RUSA and it is entirely different from the first version. Under the second phase, RUSA has different slabs for its grants. Universities and colleges which have a NAAC score of 3.51 will be granted Rs.5 crore. Whereas those with a score of 2.5 and above will be granted Rs. 2 crores only.

According to the reports, Fergusson College which has recently been granted the status of a university will get Rs.55 crore to introduce new facilities and to develop its infrastructure.
