UGC to Discontinue Distance Courses in Hotel Management and Real Estate
UGC has released a new order which denies recognition to Hotel Management and Real Estate degrees obtained through Open and Distance Learning courses.
As per a recent order, released by the University Grants Commission, aspirants will no longer be allowed to pursue distance courses in Hotel Management and Real Estate. The step had been taken after suggestions that had been received from different regulatory bodies.
In accordance with the new order, all Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes in Real Estate and Hotel Management will no longer be recognised by UGC from the 2019-20 academic session.
Nonetheless, admissions which have been undertaken in the Open and Distance Learning programmes at the time of recognition will retain their recognition till the completion of the programme, even in cases where the university does not receive the recognition for additional years. However, in these cases, the universities should abide by the norms mentioned by the UGC and territorial jurisdictions.

In 2017, the UGC had released an Open and Distance Learning Regulations in 2017, which stated professionals programmes like Architecture, Engineering and Medicine will not be offered in distance mode. This year, UGC discontinued agriculture courses through the Open and Distance Learning programmes as well.

The University Grants Commission had recently held a meeting for the purpose of extending the deadline for the admissions to the various Open and Distance Learning programmes. The order mentioned the rescheduled dates for the admissions deadline for the different ODL courses. The order announced that the deadline for the January academic session will be the last week of February, while the admission deadline for the July academic session has been extended till September end.
