Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, popularly known as IIT-B has been given the responsibility to convene IIT-JAM 2018. The Joint Admission Test is conducted for admissions to M.Sc programmes in the engineering institutes of the country - such as the IITs, NITs etc. The details of the exam will be released in August 2017. The application process for JAM 2018 will begin in September 2017. The exam will be conducted in the month of February 2018. IITs take turns to conduct the Joint Admission Test, year after year.
Earlier, a tender was finalised which clearly stated the names of the conducting body for three consecutive years - 2016 to 2018. IIT Guwahati was given the responsibility for 2018 JAM. But now, it has been updated that IIT Bombay will conduct the exam. It also conducted JAM in the year 2012.

JAM is conducted for post graduate level admissions to the following courses among others:
- M.Sc
- Ph.D.
- M.Sc - M. Tech Dual Degree
- M.Sc - Ph.D. Dual Degree

A total of 14 IITs and other institutes take part in the Joint Admission Test (JAM) in 2018. These include:

JAM is conducted in an online mode wherein 60 MCQs are asked for 100 marks. Students have to answer them in 150 minutes. Candidates are tested on subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Biotechnology, Mathematical Statistics, Biological Sciences etc. Admissions are granted basis the counselling process which is conducted in multiple rounds for which the students need to register first.
