IIT Gandhinagar scholarships are administered by the Senate Scholarship and Prize Committee (SSPC). The financial aid of IIT Gandhinagar falls into three channels: scholarships instituted by the institute (merit- and means-based), scholarships instituted by donors, and government-funded schemes, including GATE stipends, JRF/SRF fellowships, and the AICTE Pragati Scholarship. Awards are announced at the beginning of each academic year after SSPC interviews and document verification. First-year UG students are exempt from the CPI requirement, and all continuing students must meet the CPI threshold specified for their scheme to retain the award.
IIT Gandhinagar BTech scholarship covers students in both the BTech programme and the BTech+MTech dual degree programme, as admission to the dual degree is also through JEE Advanced and JoSAA counselling. The IIT Gandhinagar BTech scholarship framework has three institute-level streams: the MCM scholarship IIT Gandhinagar (means-based), the Freeship (need-based), and the Excellence scholarships (merit-based).
IIT Gandhinagar BTech Scholarship Eligibility:
| Scholarship | Amount | Key Condition |
| MCM | INR 1,000/month for 10 months + full tuition fee waiver | The committee may revise after semester review if CPI drops |
| Freeship | Full or partial tuition fee waiver with no stipend | A waiver may be restricted to 1 semester pending academic review |
| SC/ST Messing Allowance | INR 250/month + full tuition fee waiver | Expires at end of academic year and must be reapplied for annually |
| TML-FAP | As per the committee Repayable after financial independence | The metro/non-metro annual family income limit differs. All categories are eligible |
| Academic Excellence | INR 2,000/month for 10 months | If MCM or Freeship also held a monthly merit award, it will be replaced by one-time INR 5,000 |
| Sports and Games (6 awards) | INR 2,000/month for 10 months | 2nd to 4th year BTech only. Verified national or inter-IIT achievement required |
| Arts and Culture (2 awards) | INR 2,000/month for 10 months | 2nd to 4th year BTech only. Documented performance required |
| Social Work and Leadership (2 awards) | INR 2,000/month for 10 months | 2nd to 4th year BTech only. Evidence of outreach or leadership required |
IIT Gandhinagar merit-based BTech scholarship is determined separately per discipline. Toppers from every BTech discipline receive the Academic Excellence award independently for their discipline. No income proof is required for any merit award. The SSPC selects academic excellence awardees automatically from end-of-year CPI rankings. Sports, arts, and leadership awardees go through a nomination and interview process.
IIT Gandhinagar requires the applicants to appear for an SSPC interview where the committee verifies income certificates and assesses financial need for the means-based scholarships, such as MCM, Freeship, and the Tata Motors Ltd Financial Aid Programme. The IIT Gandhinagar MCM scholarship, also known as the Merit-cum-Means scholarship, is the most widely accessed of these awards. For Freeship, if the CPI falls below 6.5 mid-year, the committee restricts the fee waiver to the current semester and requires a re-interview before approving the next semester.
Scholarship | Annual Family Income Limit | CPI Floor |
| MCM | INR 450,000/year | 6.5 (1st year exempt) |
| Freeship | No fixed limit. SSPC-assessed | 6.5 (1st year exempt) |
| SC/ST Messing Allowance | INR 450,000/year | None |
| TML-FAP | INR 650,000 (non-metro) / INR 750,000 (metro) | 6.0 (1st year exempt) |
| Gita and Prithwish Goswami | INR 450,000/year | 6.5 (1st year exempt) |
Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar offers plenty of scholarships to the BTech and BTech+MTech students. However, the eligibility for each scholarship varies, with some freeships being reserved only for a particular category. The schemes a BTech student can apply for depend on their admission category. The schemes available for the SC/ST students are not available for the other categories, even if they're PWD. The same restrictions apply to other categories as well.
Category | Eligible Need-based Schemes | SSPC Interview Required |
General category students | Freeship, TML-FAP | Yes for both |
OBC students | Freeship, TML-FAP, MCM (if income is INR 450,000 or below) | Yes for all |
SC/ST | MCM, SC/ST Messing Allowance, TML-FAP | MCM and TML-FAP: Yes. Messing Allowance: No |
PwD | All applicable category schemes. Disability certificate required | Yes |
IIT Gandhinagar donor scholarships for BTech students supplement the standard MCM award rather than replacing it. Most require the student to simultaneously hold or qualify for MCM. However, there are some scholarships which are specifically for certain BTech branches, like civil engineering, material science engineering, etc. The remaining alumni-funded awards are open to all BTech students meeting donor MCM criteria.

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar PG scholarship varies by programme. The IITGN MTech scholarship is the GATE stipend. Full-time MTech students admitted through GATE, or IIT BTech graduates with a CPI of at least 8.0, receive this government-mandated stipend from the date of joining with no separate application required. MSc and MA students are not entitled to this stipend but can apply for MCM, freeship, and donor scholarships. PGDIIT students are explicitly excluded from the monthly government stipend.
IIT Gandhinagar PG Scholarship conditions:
PG Programme | Scheme and Amount | Unique Eligibility Condition |
| MTech (full-time, GATE) | GATE stipend: INR 15,400/month | Automatic from joining date with no SSPC application |
| EA MTech (Direct entry, not via GATE) | Stipend: INR 6000/month | Automatic from joining date with no SSPC application |
| MTech (full-time) | Conference travel grant: up to INR 60,000 | An accepted paper at international conference required |
| PGDIIT | No government stipend | Need-based schemes possible if full-time and eligible |
Merit-based IIT Gandhinagar PG scholarship awards are available to MSc and MA students only. MTech students receiving the GATE stipend are not separately eligible for institute merit scholarships. Admission through GATE is itself treated as recognition of merit. For MSc and MA students, discipline-wise CPI rankings at the end of the preceding academic year determine the Academic Excellence award on the same basis as for UG students.
IIT Gandhinagar means-based scholarships for the PG students are available to MSc and MA students through the standard MCM and freeship channels. To be eligible for these scholarships, the students must meet the minimum CPI and annual family income limit.

| Standard MCM (MSc/MA) | INR 450,000/year | INR 1,000 + tuition fee waiver |
| Freeship (MSc/MA) | SSPC-assessed | Tuition fee waiver only with no stipend |

IIT Gandhinagar scholarships for female students cover all institute, donor, and government channels on equal terms. The AICTE Pragati Scholarship at IITGN is the most significant external scheme available exclusively to female UG students. The one exclusive award is the Vegshakti Mahila Kalyan Sangathan (VMKS) Scholarship, a donor-funded award for female students only at IIT Gandhinagar. Female students in the BTech and BTech+MTech programmes are additionally eligible for the AICTE Pragati Scholarship at IIT Gandhinagar, a central government scheme administered through the National Scholarship Portal.

IIT Gandhinagar need-based scholarships for female students are available through both the IITGN student portal and the National Scholarship Portal, depending on the scheme. The AICTE Pragati Annual Family Income Limit is higher than the standard MCM ceiling, which means female students who do not qualify for MCM may still be eligible for Pragati.

IIT Gandhinagar application for scholarships involves certain processes. The IITGN scholarship application process for institute scholarships such as the MCM, Freeship, TML-FAP, and donor awards runs through the IITGN student portal at the start of each academic year. External schemes such as AICTE Pragati must be submitted through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), with the application window typically open between July and October.
Students applying for IIT Gandhinagar scholarships must upload the following documents through the portal. All documents must be self-attested unless the portal specifies otherwise.
IIT Gandhinagar scholarship verification process in 2026 begins after the portal submission window closes. The SSPC reviews all applications in batches and calls shortlisted candidates for interviews, typically within the first six weeks of the academic year.
IIT Gandhinagar scholarship renewal takes place at the start of every academic year. The IIT Gandhinagar scholarship income limit is checked again at renewal. If a family's income has risen above the ceiling, the award is withdrawn from the next disbursement. Scholarship renewal at IITGN is not automatic. Most awards are valid for 1 year only. Students must reapply through the SSPC processes each year. Awards may be continued, reduced, or withdrawn based on academic performance, attendance, conduct, and changes in family income.
Renewal Condition | Threshold or Rule | Consequence of Non-Compliance |
| CPI (MCM and donor MCM) | Minimum 6.5 | Award discontinued for that year. The student may reapply the following year |
| CPI (TML-FAP) | Minimum 6.0 | Aid suspended. Student may reapply when CPI recovers |
| Family income (MCM) | Maximum INR 450,000/year | Award withdrawn if income exceeds limit at renewal |
| Family income (donor MCM) | Maximum INR 800,000/year | Award withdrawn if income exceeds limit at renewal |
| SSPC interview attendance | Mandatory. Absence needs prior approval | Disqualified for that cycle |
| Course attendance | As per institute minimum threshold | Scholarship suspended for the affected semester |
| Conduct | No active disciplinary case | Disbursement withheld until case is resolved |
| Income change at renewal | Must notify SSPC immediately | Scholarship withdrawn from next disbursement date |
IIT Gandhinagar scholarship last date in 2026 for the institute-funded awards, including MCM, Freeship, TML-FAP, and donor scholarships, has not been released yet by the institute. For different scholarships, the application date varies. Students are advised to check their institute email and the portal during the first two weeks of August each year to avoid missing the window.
