Being among the younger universities in the country, the University of North British Columbia sees its journey begin in 1990. UNBC has been, since its inception, a pioneering institution in education and has received many accolades and awards. Among them, the University of North British Columbia has been recognised as one of the top 50 research institutions in Canada, along with being among the top 5% of the Universities worldwide, according to Times Higher Education. Over a span of 12 years, UNBC has been ranked in the top three small universities in Canada consecutively under the Maclean’s Rankings. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The campus of the University of North British Columbia is spread over 550 hectares of land, complete with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure to facilitate modern education. There are multiple campuses of UNBC, viz the Main Campus in Prince George, Peace River-Liard Campus in Fort St. John, the Northwest Campus in Terrace and the South-Central Campus in Quesnel. Each campus location offers distinct courses and programmes in different fields such as Arts, Applied & Pure Sciences, Social Work, Commerce, Education, Planning, Engineering, Business at the Undergraduate, Graduate and Doctorate levels. Students can also opt for various minors, certificates or even diplomas at the University of North British Columbia.

Accomplishments & Alumni

With the first batch of alumni leaving the university in 1994, the University of North British Columbia began with 6 alumni members, to its current output of 700 alumni members each year. Currently, UNBC has produced nearly 15,000 alumni members who have taken up leadership roles and positions in various organisations. Being such a young University, UNBC has been able to gain the recognition of an elite University in the world by Times Higher Education. Apart from being recognised for its academic and research excellence, UNBC has also been recognised as one of the top employers in British Columbia, with professional development programmes and benefits such as tuition waivers for aspiring employees, spouses or family members.
