Established in 1754, Columbia University is New York’s oldest institution for higher education and the 5th oldest university in the United States. A private research university that is also part of the Ivy League, Columbia University enjoys a rich history spanning over a 250 year period in which it has shown immense growth in all aspects and has evolved as one of the best places for higher learning in the USA. Columbia University ranks 18th on the QS World University rankings and is affiliated with the Association of American Universities, the Universities Research Association and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The Columbia University campus is located in New York City and is well-equipped with the necessary infrastructure to aid students in learning and research. The campus is beautifully designed and it is home to the 20 schools of Columbia University, 25 libraries, 4 affiliated colleges. There plenty of accommodation available on the campus and it also has plenty of space for leisure and recreation, which include cafeterias, and a number of artworks have also been installed. Columbia University provides hundreds of bachelors and masters programmes in more than 50 fields of study, which include architecture, engineering, journalism, law, nursing, social work, management etc.

Covid-19 Response

Columbia's campuses have been set up in accordance with the guidelines of the New York State public health laws. All Columbia affiliates are required to wear masks at all times as vaccination status is not known for all individuals. Vaccinated individuals may choose to wear or not wear masks and observe physical distancing.

  • Columbia University has made Covid-19 vaccination mandatory for all students, staff and faculty who would be on campus this Fall. Exemptions will be made only based on religious and medical notions which are in accordance with New York State public health laws.

  • Continuing students at Columbia who were in active F or J status on March 9, 2020 will be able to maintain their immigration status while studying from their home country or entirely remotely in the US, provided they remain enrolled full-time and make progress in their course.

  • New students who arrived in the US after March 9, 2020 holding an initial I-20/DS-2019 should enrol in at least one hybrid course to maintain their visa status in 2021.

  • Students from India, China, Brazil, Iran or South Africa with valid F-1 visas will be allowed to enter the US for the fall semester. They do not to seek an exception based on national interest in order to travel to the US and can come to the US up to 30 days before the fall 2021 start date.

  • In case an international student is unable to obtain a visa or arrive in the US on the start date, they may contact their admissions office and request for other options or defer their admission.
