Reservation

In state government jobs and educational institutions, there is reservation irrespective of family income. For BC category the reservation is 26.5%

Educational & Financial Assistance

  • Pre-matric scholarship: Helps with tuition fees, special fees, exam fees for students in classes up to 10 (especially for BC / MBC / DNC communities). There are income criteria in many cases.
  • Post-matric scholarship: For higher standards (11, 12) and undergraduate courses; includes help with fees, exams etc.
  • Free Education scheme: In UG courses in government & aided Arts & Science colleges, certain fees (special / non-refundable / compulsory / exam) are waived for BC/MBC/DNC students
  • Rural Girls’ Incentive Scheme: Financial incentive to encourage girl students from MBC/DNC in rural areas to continue studies.
  • Free Bicycles: For 11th standard students in govt / govt-aided or partially aided schools.

Other Welfare Schemes & Concessions

  • Free / Subsidised Hostels, boarding grants for students in BC / MBC / DNC.
  • Free tools / sewing machines / iron-boxes etc. for eligible BC / MBC / DNC persons to help livelihood opportunities (with some income & age limits).
  • Free house-site pattas: For landless people among BC/MBC/DNC; subject to income ceiling.
  • Special Schools / Kallar Reclamation Schools etc. for certain communities with additional support (meals, books, uniforms etc.).
  • Thanthai Periyar Award for Social Justice: Recognition scheme for individuals who promote social justice

The continuing effort from the Tamil Nadu Government have worked in the direction to uplift the BC community in terms of employment opportunities, educational facilities and reservation.
