The pen and paper based Management Aptitude Test or MAT Dec 2016 was held today – December 11, 2016 across various centers in India. We observed that was very little change in the MAT exam pattern and difficulty level as compared to the September MAT 2016 or December MAT 2015.
As usual, the overall structure of the MAT exam was the same as last year. Like the previous years, December MAT 2016 had 5 sections - each comprising of 40 questions with 4 options and a negative marking of 1/4th of the full mark for every incorrect answer.

The overall difficulty level of the exam has been slightly on the higher side, particularly in English (Language Comprehension) than that of the previous MAT exams. Most of the questions in other sections were of moderate in terms of the level of difficulty level, only a few were difficult as usual. Time management was the key for MAT December 2016 offline paper.

In theLanguage Comprehension section, there were 5 passages with 4 questions each. Vocab and grammar questions were doable and hence, could be the decider.
Intelligence and Critical Reasoning sectionhad a mixture of Verbal Reasoning and Logical Reasoning questions. There were questions on Venn diagrams and cubes (including 2 questions involving Visual Reasoning) as well as questions on statement-conclusion types and assertion and reason.
Mathematical Skills sectionwas the most scoring section. Typical to its nature, Arithmetic and word based problems dominated this section. Algebra and Modern Algebra were also an integral part of this section.
Data Analysis and Sufficiencywere not so scoring due to time constraint. The questions on Data Sufficiency were on the relatively easier side and should have been attempted. Data Analysis questions needed long calculation.
Current events of the past few months comprised all the questions in theIndian and Global Environment section. Hence, if you have kept yourself abreast with the current economic and political scenarios in India and abroad, read newspapers and watched/ listened news, you would have found this section easy.
