Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences Inaugurated in the Memory of the Late Former PM of India
The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences, or ABVIMS, was inaugurated on 16th August 2019, Friday. It is established in the memory of Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee and was inaugurated on his first death anniversary.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been one of the most powerful and revered politicians in the history of India. The whole nation mourned at the death of the former Prime Minister last year. On the first death anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a medical college has been inaugurated which is named after him. Harsh Vardhan, the Union Health Minister, inaugurated the medical college on 16th August 2019, Friday, at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
The Director and Medical Superintendent of the college, V. K. Tiwari, told about the facilities that the institute will be offering. He said that the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences, which is abbreviated as ABVIMS, will start with 100 seats for M.B.B.S (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) this year. The institute is a state-of-the-art medical college and has world-class infrastructure a reputed faculty. The super-speciality block of ABVIMS includes more than 550 beds as of now and there are a total of 827 bed units at the new Resident Doctors’ Hostel.
The Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan, welcomed all the new entrants of the first batch of MBBS at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences. He wished them success and good luck in their new endeavours. Vardhan said that the Central Government of India is committed to providing good quality medical education in the nation and the inauguration of ABVIMS is a step in this direction.

Ashwini Choubey, the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare; Anil Baijal, the 21st Lieutenant Governor of Delhi; Meenakshi Lekhi, Member of Parliament; and Preeti Sudan, the Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Welfare were also present for the event and they paid their tributes to the late former Prime Minister of India, Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
