IIT-B and Rotary Club to Set Up 200 Camps to Check Diabetes

20% of India’s population is suffering from diabetes. According to stats, it has been found that symptoms in almost half of the cases don't show until its too late. This makes increasing awareness about the disease even more important.

Joint efforts have been made by IIT Bombay and Rotary Club Mumbai to spread awareness about the disease in the annual tech fest between December 16 and 18. The institute will be setting up 200 awareness and testing camps for diabetes.

Also, on September 25, IIT Bombay and Rotary Club will be setting up 100 camps across the city.

With the aim to enter the Guinness World Record, 100 more camps will set up by IIT-Bombay and the Rotary Club across 8 other states in India.

All of this will be covered under the institute’s initiative: CURED (Can You Really Escape Diabetes).

According to Arun Bhargava who is appointed as the chief project director of Rotary for the region, efforts will be made to successfully test around one lakh people during the camps.

Also, diabetologist Dr Pradeep Gadge, while speaking at the launch of the campaign asked the students to put in efforts in solving various problems faced by doctors with the help of technology. He said that the current insulin provided to patients needs to be more effective and for that doctors and engineers need to come together to come up with methods in order to reduce their workload and improve treatment."

He also advised the population of India to get their sugar levels tested every two years after they reach 30 years.

• In order to promote awareness about the disease, a cyclothon will be held in the month of October
