IIT Kanpur & TCS Collaborate to Boost Research on ICME-Based Materials

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur have collaborated to set up a world-class research and education ecosystem for Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) on the campus. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between IIT Kanpur and TCS in 2015 and National Hub has been materialised through this MoU.

The main objective of this collaboration is to boost research on technology of national importance and ICME-based materials. The collaboration involves training professionals through research projects and different pedagogy, strengthening research in related topics and developing open-source tools that enable development of teaching and materials solutions.

The centre for ICME will be inaugurated on March 2, 2017. Director of IIT Kanpur, Prof. Indranil Manna and K. Ananth Krishnan, Chief Technology Officer of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will take part in the inaugural session.

Through this collaboration, the focus will be laid on academic and industry collaborations, which is a significant area to develop the ICME Hub. The collaborations will be made with Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, National Metallurgical Laboratory and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) is one of the emerging specialisation which has a significant potential in materials development by integrating different disciplines to reduce the cost and time in manufacturing and development. For instance, an automobile industry requires long time to develop and consolidate. However, through ICME, the time span for the development is much shorter.
