Various school boards have been directed by JEE Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) to provide top 20 percentile cut-off mark for the results of Class 12 examination so that the admission process for Indian Institutes of Technology and National Institutes of Technology, as well as other engineering colleges, are not delayed. The deadline to provide cut-off mark is set at June 10, 2017.

JEE took the decision at a meeting of Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) which includes both CBSE and all school education boards of various states. JoSAA can't start the seat allocation process without Class 12 marks (which should be at least 75%) or be in the top 20 percentile candidates of a school is mandatory for securing admission in NITs or IITs.

Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) directed the school boards to furnish the top 20 percentile cut-off. The details provided by the schools will help in preparing cut-off mark lists for the engineering exam. According to sources, all the school boards including CBSE assured that they would provide the top 20 percentile cut-off by the third week of May. One of the officials revealed that the registrations for Joint Seat Allocation Process would begin on June 15, 2017.

IITs and other institutes explained to Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) regarding the problems they face if the schools delay in furnishing top 20 percentile cut-off. Therefore, COBSE fixed a deadline for the same, and the last date is June 10, 2017.
