Madras HC Directs CBSE to File Response on Four NEET Queries
Madurai bench of Madras High Court informed CBSE to file a response on translation errors in NEET-UG 2018 exam. The next hearing will take place on July 06, 2018.
The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has directed the CBSE to file a response on four queries posed by the court to ensure fair competition of Tamil Nadu students in NEET. The next hearing of the matter will take place on Friday, July 06, 2018 and CBSE has been directed to file its response before the next hearing.
Four Questions Posed by Madras HC on NEET:
- Did CBSE undertake any steps to ascertain which of the English words (both technical and scientific) were incapable for Tamil translation? If yes, what method did CBSE choose to translate the words in the Tamil Language? Did CBSE use any dictionary to translate above terms in Tamil?
- Did CBSE inform Tamil medium students involved in NEET coaching about compilation?
- Did CBSE take steps to educate Tamil medium students on English words used to name parts of human body, plants etc, and have an equivalent Tamil word?
- Did CBSE take any steps to ensure fair competition of Tamil Nadu students in NEET?

The court further refused to accept the petitioner’s plea to stay the ongoing NEET counselling process for the admission to MBBS course. The court clarified that it would wait for CBSE’s response on the questions as mentioned above.

This year, Tamil Nadu NEET students companied over translation errors in NEET-UG 2018 exam. Tamil medium students faced difficulty in understanding terms. The English terms used were different from the Tamil terms, which created confusion among the students.
