More than 17,000 Students Skip JEE Advanced 2018

  • A total of 17,057 candidates out of 1,64,822 who registered for JEE advanced 2018 did not appear for the exam on Sunday.

JEE Advanced 2018 was conducted on Sunday, May 20, 2018, and according to reports, more than 17,000 candidates did not appear for the exam. JEE Advanced 2018 was conducted online in two shifts across 573 centres in India. 7,326 students skipped JEE Advanced paper 1, whereas, 9,731 students did not write the Paper 2, reported JEE Advanced Organising Chairman, Prof Shalabh.

According to these numbers, 17,057 out of a total of 1,64,822 candidates who had registered for the exam did not appear for JEE Advanced. 1,57,496 students had written the JEE Advanced Paper 1 out of which 1,55,091 made it to the JEE Advanced paper 2. The number of foreign students who appeared for JEE Advanced in 2018 also dropped to 36 from 109 in 2017.

According to reports, JEE Advanced 2018 was conducted without any disruptions and malpractices. Candidates had complied with all the rules and only a few who were wearing ornaments were asked to remove them in order to enter the exam hall.

Candidates who appeared for JEE Advanced reported that the mathematics paper was tough as well as time-consuming. They also said that they were not able to finish the mathematics questions as they were very complex. Some of the candidates also reported that the organic chemistry section was also quite lengthy.

However, the students reported that most of the students found the JEE Advanced physics paper satisfactory as compared to the other two. Students also had to leave a good number of questions as they feared that answering wrongly will increase the number of negative marks.

Experts said that the students found this year’s JEE Advanced exam difficult as this was the first time that the exam was conducted in online mode and there was no way of gauging the difficulty level of the exam.
