Mumbai FYJC Admissions 2018: Over 5,000 Allotted Seats in Second Merit List
There has been a significant drop in the second cut-off list of few colleges in Mumbai FYJC admissions 2018. Over 14,000 students applied for admissions to FYJC bifocal courses and only 5,072 seats have been confirmed till now.
Over 5,057 candidates have been allotted seats in Mumbai Junior Colleges after the release of the second merit list. Mumbai FYJC second merit list was released on 28th June for admission to bifocal programmes across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
There has been a significant drop in the cut-offs of few colleges as compared to the first merit list. As per the records, the cut-offs at Jai Hind College, Mumbai dropped to 91.83% from 93.6% for computer science stream. On the other hand, the cut-off went down in the electronics stream, from 91.8% to 88.8%. Mithibai College also witnessed a similar trend as the cut-off for computer science stream came down to 92.6% from 94.6% and for the electronics course, it is 89.2% with almost a drop of 2% from 91.8%.
In the case of bifocal courses, students have an option to drop a subject (for instance biology) and another second language subject. Instead, a candidate can take up a single 200-mark paper such as electrical maintenance and computer science. These courses are popular among students who plan to pursue engineering in future.

This is for the first time that the education department of Mumbai has declared a separate list for bifocal programmes. More than 14,000 students had applied for bifocal seats in junior colleges located in Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, and Raigad. In a week, since the release of the first merit list, only 5,072 admissions have been confirmed. After the release of the second list, 4,899 candidates have been allotted seats in the science stream, which is half of the number of applicants.

In commerce stream, of the 284 applicants, 156 seats have already been allotted. Candidates have to confirm their admissions by June 30. This year, the most number of applications have been received for commerce stream which is approximately 62% of the total admissions. The science stream remained the second favorite among the students followed by the arts stream.
