The National Law University of Odisha (NLU Odisha) has been urged by Saswant Mishra, the Secretary of the Higher Education Department, to reserve 25 per cent of the total seats in the undergraduate courses for the students who belong to Odisha. Mishra has asked NLU Odisha to reserve these seats for the students of Odisha who have passed class XII or equivalent exams from the state. They can claim reservation under the domicile data.

Saswat Mishra sent a letter to the Vice-Chancellor of the National Law University, Odisha last year in which he had said that the State Government of Odisha has provided a sum of around Rs 200 crore to NLU Odisha to develop infrastructure of the university.

NLU Odisha had also received one more letter from the Higher Education Department on 24th April 2018 on the same issue. Mishra addressed the same in 2019 and said that they have not received any reply from the university on that matter even after an entire year has elapsed. Apart from that, the students of Odisha are still not provided with reservation in undergraduate courses of the university as was asked a year back. Hence, Mishra requested NLU Odisha to address the matter.
