History, Affiliations & Rankings
The University of Hartford or UHart finds its roots in 1877 when the Hartford Art School was established, soon followed by the Hartt School of Music and Hillyer College — each founded independently by eminent personalities who believed in the importance of making education available for all. These three founding colleges came together in 1957 and became the base of what would grow to become one of the finest educational establishments in the area. It was not long before the university saw a boom in enrolments, quickly expanded and added the College of Arts & Sciences, Barney School of Business, the College of Education, Nursing & Health Professions, and the College of Engineering, Technology & Architecture under its iconic red and white emblem. UHart has been ranked 194th in National Universities and 57th in Engineering Programmes by the US News & World Report.
