Let us suppose that the exam is conducted in 3 shifts.
The average marks for the first shift was 50.
The average marks of the second shift was 80.
Now, the difference between both shift 1 and shift 2 will be 30 (80-50).
If we add the difference to the first shift’s average number, it will be 80 (50+30). This means the average marks for both shifts will be the same. This will be the normalised score.
Using the same method, we can calculate the normalised score for Shift 2 and Shift 3.

How Can Normalisation Affect Candidates' Scores?
Different levels of difficulty are the cause of the enormous difference in scores. The scores will be computed using a formula as part of the normalisation procedure. The candidates' marks and the actual number of correct questions throughout the various sets are used as inputs in the calculation. In this manner, the candidates are freed from the uncertainty of taking a test with a challenging or straightforward set of questions. Therefore, the difficulty of a particular set will not have an impact on the candidates' scores.

CTET Minimum Qualifying Marks 2024
