Why AEEE Result is Announced in Percentile?

AEEE results are announced as percentile scores, not percentages, to normalize marks across various shifts and phases, thus ensuring fairness. Higher percentiles mean better ranks. 95+ percentile is desirable for CSE in Coimbatore, Bangalore, Amritapuri campuses.

The bittersweet day that every student has a love-hate relationship with, results day. While from our schooling days we have received numerous good or “can do better” results in the expressions of marks, percentage, grade, and CGPAs, but when you download yourAEEE result 2026for engineering admission, what does this big word “percentile” mean, and why is it there, instead of percentage? Although percentile looks and sounds a lot like percentage, they are very different. A percentage is a quantification term for your marks, while a percentile measures how relatively good or bad you did as compared to the total consensus of appearing candidates.

For example, if you score 75 marks out of 100, then your percentage is 75, translating to you scored 75% of the total marks. But if you score 75 percentile, then it explains that you scored better than 75% of the total appearing students, and the rest 25% did better than you. Percentile light outs how much better you did from your fellow participants.

Why Does Amrita University Use the Percentile System?

As Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham conducts the AEEE exam in different shifts and phases, it is possible for the entrance test to have a dynamic difficulty level across various phases and shifts. The exam can appear easy in some phases as compared to the other phases and centres. So, to prevent any injustice to students, to normalise the result, meaning setting a common platform for all the students to grant them seats in the college, the percentile is used. It is more logical to tell students their results through percentile, when they all solve different question papers depending on their shift and phase.

Impact of AEEE Percentile Scoring on Students’ Results, Ranks and Admissions

While many exams reach their cutoff according to the average marks scored by the students, Amrita Institute decides itsAEEE 2026 cutoffand derives a rank according to the percentile. For example, if you are in the 99th percentile, then it means you are in the top 1% of all the other candidates. The higher the percentile, the lower the rank will be.

If there is more than one student lying under the same percentile, then students with the higher total marks will get a better rank.

If total marks are also the same, then your subject's marks will be evaluated; if those are also identical, then, as a last resort, the candidate who is older will get a better rank.

After calculating all the percentile scores and sorting them in descending order, ranks are allotted. For example, 99.999 will have rank 1, then the next lower percentile will have rank 2, and so on.

According to the records and numbers coming in from 2025, the qualifying cutoff was around the 30-40th percentile.

AEEE uses percentile as a format for their result announcement as it is more feasible for the students and exam boards to justify the result, especially when the exam is conducted in different phases and shifts. It is more important to know how you performed in comparison to your peer candidates, as the seats are limited for the college, rather than to only know how you did by getting your marks. Percentile helps the exam boards to normalise exam results, since different shifts and different phases can have relatively easier or more difficult set papers. Your marks and scores will only come into play when you have a coinciding percentile with other students.

Yes, you are **eligible for B.Tech admission at LPU**, but there’s a **minimum requirement of 45% marks in 10+2 (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics)** for general category students. Since you have scored **exactly 45%**, you meet the basic eligibility. Admission will also consider your **LPUNEST score or merit in qualifying exams**, and you may have access to scholarships based on performance if you qualify for higher LPUNEST scores.
