The bittersweet day that every student has a love-hate relationship with, results day. Although percentile looks and sounds a lot like percentage, they are very different. A percentage is a quantification term for your marks, while a percentile measures how relatively good or bad you did as compared to the total consensus of appearing candidates.
For example, if you score 75 marks out of 100, then your percentage is 75, translating to you scored 75% of the total marks. But if you score 75 percentile, then it explains that you scored better than 75% of the total appearing students, and the rest 25% did better than you.
