JoSAA: 5,915 Engineering Seats Vacant after Round 6
- JoSAA is conducting Round 7 seat allotment process for the admission to IIITs, GFTIs, NITs and IITs.
- A total number of 26 seats remained vacant in Computer Science engineering course while 56 in Electrical Engineering course across various IITs.
The sixth round of admission process by Joint Seat Allocation Authority concluded recently. According to sources, around 5,900 seats remain vacant after Round 6. Currently, JoSAA is conducting Round 7 seat allotment process for the admission to IIITs, GFTIs, NITs and IITs. A total number of 26 seats remained vacant in Computer Science engineering course while 56 in Electrical Engineering course across various Indian Institutes of Technology. Majorly, it is the newer IITs that have not been able to fill seats for these courses.
For civil engineering, IIT Bombay has only one seat left while IIT Delhi has two seats. Further, IIT Delhi has one seat in Chemical Engineering and 10 seats are available in total as of now.

Usually, the candidates who take part in JoSAA can withdraw the admission until the sixth round. Many candidates who secured a seat withdrew their allotment due to various reasons leaving 5,915 seats vacant across engineering institutes. It has been observed that students prefer institute rather than stream while some opt for the stream of their choice, no matter which institute they get.

At Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, 20 seats were vacant at the beginning of Round 7 counselling process. A large number of seats are also vacant at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Varanasi. Last year, out of 73 seats vacant in IITs, 38 were in IIT Varanasi.
As far as NITs concerned, a total number of 1,518 seats are available of which most come under the state quota.
