Reasons why Indian Universities made it to Top 500 of QS Subject-wise Rankings
International subject-wise Quacquarelli Symonds's (QS) rankings were released earlier this month on 8th March 2017. The list comprised of the best programmes that are offered by the most prestigious universities in the world.
International subject-wise Quacquarelli Symonds's (QS) rankings were released earlier this month on 8th March 2017. The list comprised of the best programmes that are offered by the most prestigious universities in the world.
The rankings were released after the analysis of the study conducted for 46 different subjects. From India, departments of 28 institutes made it to the Top 500 list of subject-specific rankings.
What were the reasons behind Indian universities making it to the list?
- State-of-art research laboratories
- Updated curricula planned in coordination with industry
- Adoption of outcome-based models which defines what each student should learn at the end of the semester
- Special visits by international experts for workshops and seminars
- Specialised mentors present on campus for each group of researchers
- Strict policies to safeguard the research carried out by students as well as promotion of international publication
- Students are encouraged to take up internship opportunities during the course so that they receive a good employer reputation
- University departments grant for the purpose of research and development

About QS Rankings:
- The subject-wise rankings judged universities on parameters such as subjects offered, teaching method, research and employability of the students.
- In the past few years, Indian institutes have not been given good rankings in the world-renowned rankings. Institutes such as IIT Madras , IIT Bombay did not make it to the top 200 overall list.
