THE Emerging Economies University Rankings have the names of several Indian institutes including IISc Bangalore, IITs, etc. Compared to the previous year, there has been a change in the ranks of IISc and IITs this year.
Times Higher Education has released the rank list for universities in emerging economies. 42 countries with emerging economies participated in THE Emerging Economies University Rankings including India, China, Russia, Taiwan, Brazil, Pakistan and Indonesia. A total of 42 Indian institutions participated in 2018, whereas, in 2017 the number was just 27. In 2020, over 56 Indian institutions featured in THE Emerging Economies Rankings.
Various initiatives taken by the Government of India to improve the quality of education and research have helped in maintaining ground in THE rankings. However, ranks of several IITs have dropped. China led THE Emerging Economies University Rankings with a total of 72 institutes ranked in the list.

Editorial Director of THE Global Rankings, Phil Baty, said that India has the potential to emerge as one of the leading education markets in the nation. He also added that with initiatives like Study in India and Institutions of Eminence, India is heading in the right direction as these initiatives will help attract global talent. He also added that such initiatives have produced good results for the institutes of other nations.
