IIT JAM was conducted on February 15, 2026 byIIT Bombayin two shifts. Shift 1 exam got conducted from 9.30 AM to 12.30 PM for three papers i.e. Chemistry (CY), Geology (GG) and Mathematics (MA). The shift 2 was conducted from 2.30 PM to 5.30 PM for the other subjects - Biotechnology (BT), Physics (PH), Economics (EN) and Mathematical Statistics (MS). This year, 3000 seats for PG programmes across 22 IITs and for admission to NITs, IISc,IIEST Shibpur, IISER Pune, IISER Bhopal, CFTIs etc, the JAM scores will be used for filling up over 2300 seats.
As per the initial reactions of students, mathematics paper as predicted by our expert Sakunth Kumar, it was difficult. Rohit Biswas from Kolkata centre told our team that he found the Maths paper to be quite tough. According to him permutation combination questions were doable and there were 2 questions integrating binomial and permuatation and combination. He found group theory questions to be tough. Another aspirant from Kolkata, Sangita Ghosh said that her analysis of the Maths paper was very tough. When asked by our team - How many questions did you attempt? to which she replied, "Around 23 24. The paper was extremely tough, Binomial was easy and also integral calculus. But algebra was extremely tough".
For the chemistry paper, Naman Jain from Jodhpur said - "For me it was easy. Direct formula based questions were asked." We asked Naman about which section was dominant in the paper? He replied us "I am happy Inorganic was less. Mix of physical and organic mainly". Another aspirant from Kolkata centre Ayush Sanyal said his found Chemistry paper to be easy to moderate in nature. Few questions were direct formula based. Another aspirant from Cuttack centre Manish Jena said he found physical chemistry questions quite tough and organic chemistry questions were moderate to difficult.
For the physics paper in the second half the overall physics paper was moderate to tough for students. Ankush Gautam, an aspirant from Patna found NAT section was quite tough. He found the Optics question to be quite tough. For questions on solid state it was easy. Abhimanyu Rai an aspirant from Kalyani told our team that Modern Physics section was tough and it was the most dominant section in the exam.

CollegeDekho Expert Prediction vs Actual Exam
Here we have highlighted the type of questions and level of difficulty that our team had predicted after detailed conversation with experts like Sakunth Kumar and Anjali K.
Subjects | CollegeDekho Expert Prediction | Actual Exam Analysis |
Chemistry |
| Moderate level of difficulty as reported by most of the students. Few questions were directly formula based questions. However, physical chemistry was dominant |
Geology |
| TBU |
Mathematics |
| As predicted mathematics was the toughest of all the papers. Required very good conceptual clarity. Permutation and Combination questions were there. Integrated topics were asked mostly that required intensive calculations. |
Economics |
| TBU |
Physics |
| Physics as said by most of the students that the paper was moderate to moderate to difficult. Students found that questions from NAT section was tough. As compared to last 5 years, the paper was tough. |
Biotechnology |
