The new batch of the Haryana Civil Servants is a mixed bag as all the 48 come from different family backgrounds. From software engineers to IIM & IIT grads, an assistant professor to an unemployed educated, BJP MP’s son to confectioner’s son, daughter of a newspaper vendor to a staff nurse, the 48 Haryana (HSc Executives) civil servants have proven that family background does not matter if the intent and will is right. Let us dive deep into their lives.

Sidharth Dahiya, Sonipat, 34

A B.Tech and MBA degree holder, Sidharth has a prior work experience of 4 years with an Audit Consultancy Firm. Prior to getting selected in Haryana Civil Services, he was working in EPFO as an Account Officer. Son of a class-I HSAMB officer, he has also tried his luck in the UPSC but missed it by a whisker.

Devendra Sharma, New Delhi, 29

An ex-employee in the Income Tax Department, Devendra Sharma is a son of a CRPF Commandant who completed his Computer Science Engineering from Delhi University. He is a resident of Bhiwani and has 6-month work experience with an MNC. Having failed in the interview round of UPSC multiple times did not deter his faith from cracking the HCS exam.

Akhilesh Kumar, Mahendargarh, 23

Akhilesh is a Law graduate from Panjab University who cracked the HCS exam at the first go. He belongs to a family where both the parents are working. His mother is a lecturer and father an advocate.

Darshan Yadav, Hisar, 26

He is an IIT’ian who completed his B.Tech from IIT Mumbai. A humble upbringing has inculcated a steely determination in Darshan which is why he could bounce back from the failure in the UPSC interview round to crack the HCS examination.

Jeetinder Joshi, Chandigarh, 25

Jeetinder is a Mechanical engineering pass out from PEC Chandigarh who was employed as an Inspector in the Income Tax Department post passing out in 2016. He was posted in New Delhi. It was his maiden attempt in the HCS exam after having suffered a setback in the Punjab Civil Services exam where he got eliminated in the interview stage.

Mohit Kumar, Jhajjar, 28

A B.Sc pass out from Jat College Rohtak, Mohit Kumar was a security assistant in Rajya Sabha prior to cracking the HCS examination. His father is a small confectionery shop owner while his mother keeps the house. Another HCS candidates in the already long list of those who failed to go past the interview round of UPSC in 2017-18.

Pulkit Malhotra, Kaithal, 26

A B.Tech (Civil) graduate from Amity University, Pulkit is one of those few who succeeded in cracking the HCS exam in the very first attempt. Pulkit has been preparing for civil services exam and pursuing his Bachelor of Law study from Kurukshetra University simultaneously. His father is an Income Tax advocate while his mother is a retired Associate Professor.

Renuka, Rohtak, 28

Renuka is a B.Tech graduate from UIET, Kurukshetra University who succeeded in her second attempt at the HCS exam. A daughter of a Delhi Police Inspector, Renuka had also tried her luck thrice in UPSC but eventually falling short at the last moment every time.

Ankita Verma, Gurugram, 25

Ankita also qualified the HCS exam in her very first attempt. She completed her B.E from NSIT, Dwarka in Computer Sciences. Her father is an employee in the Finance Ministry of Government of India. She too tried to clear the UPSC exam but HCS was “where she was destined to be” might say a soothsayer.

Nisha, Gurugram, 25

An IIT Madras Postgraduate student, Nisha took the HCS exam while preparing for UPSC. She has already appeared for UPSC twice and the result of her second attempt, i.e UPSC Mains, is yet to be declared. She takes immense pride in the fact that she is the first in her family to join civil services. Her father owns a transport business and her mother a homemaker.

Their success stories are not easy to emulate. We often speak about how successful a person is by looking at his/her achievements but what we ignore is their strenuous journey and steely determination which took them to their destination. As someone rightly remarked - Success is like a tip of the iceberg. What is visible is the end result but what lies underneath is seldom spoken about.

CollegeDekho wishes them best of luck for their new innings.
