Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the new session of engineering and medical colleges in India will most likely start from November. Whereas for first-year students in the IITs and NITs can expect the session to start only December.

According to government officials, the delay in the entrance examinations, the Union Ministry of Health is working on a new admission schedule for MBBS and BDS admissions in India. Similarly, the state universities, IITs, and AICTE are also preparing the new schedule for the matches of students enrolling in the first year.

NTA has released the new dates for JEE Main. The exam will take place from 1 to 6 September and the results will be announced by September 10 or 11.Once the result is out, the counselling for B.Tech admissions and seat allocation will begin in engineering colleges. NTA official informed for B.Tech, online seat allocation is being planned which will take place from mid-September to October. Whereas, for vacant, spot rounds of seat allocation will be held in November. the IITs will only have 5 rounds of counselling rather instead of the usual 7 rounds.

JEE Advanced which is mandatory for admissions to IITs and NITS is scheduled to place on September 27 and in all likelihood, the result for the same will be out by the first week of October. The IITs will only have 5 rounds of counselling rather instead of the usual 7 rounds. This will provide the institutes with time to start the session for new students at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the NEET exam will now take place on September 13 and the result will be released within 15 to 20 days. Mosy likely, the seat allocation will start from mid-October. This implies that the first-year classes in medical colleges will start only by November.

To make up for the lost time in the new session, IITs are looking to convert Saturdays into working days and also cut down summer and winter holidays in 2021 so that they are able to complete the syllabus on time and students do not suffer any academic loss.
