Second Round of UK’s India Young Professionals Scheme Open

The UK has announced the second round of India Young Professionals Scheme ballot which is currently open until 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Interested candidates are advised to complete the process as outlined by the British Commission and get a chance to live and work in the UK this year.

Second Round of UK’s India Young Professionals Scheme Open

In a tweet alerting students, the UK government has invited applications to the Young Professional Scheme for Indian citizens between the ages of 18 and 30. The ballot opened on Monday and is now scheduled to close on Thursday by 1:30 p.m, as per the tweet from the British Commission.

Launched this year, the Young Professional Scheme for Indians facilitates the movement of Indian graduates with a bachelor’s or master’s degree to live and work in the UK for a period of two years. Those visiting the country under the scheme are permitted to enter the UK anytime throughout the validity period of their visa. Moreover, they will also be to leave the country and return to the UK anytime during this period.

Reports state that 3,000 slots have been made available for the India Young Professionals Scheme for the current year, i.e. 2023. The UK had previously conducted the first batch of allocation in February this year and was successful in filling up most of the slots. However, the remaining slots are expected to be allocated during the July ballot.

Candidates successfully selected in the ballot will be required to send in their visa application before the deadline, which will be mentioned on a subsequent invitation to apply. This deadline is usually scheduled a month after the selection in the ballot. As per requirements, candidates are required to have travelled to the UK within the past six months of applying for their respective visas.

Interested candidates must satisfy the following eligibility criteria for the scheme:

  • Candidates must be Indian nationals or citizens between the ages of 18 and 30. Candidates turning 18 this year must ensure that they turn 18 by the time they have to travel to the UK.

  • Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher academic qualification or a qualification equivalent to the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) level 6, 7 or 8.

  • Students should also possess a minimum of GBP 2,530 to financially support themselves in the UK.

  • Candidates should also ensure that they do not have any individual under the age of 18 or anyone they are financially responsible for.

After ensuring that the candidates meet the above-mentioned criteria, applicants will also have to cover the application fee charges, which have been set at GBP 259. Candidates may also be required to pay additional fees such as a healthcare surcharge, set at GBP 940, as well as proof of appropriate funds in personal savings.

Once assured of eligibility, candidates must follow the steps to apply for the India Young Professionals Scheme ballot, as outlined below.

  • Enter the ballot if eligible.

  • Candidates successful in the ballot will receive an invitation to apply for a visa permitting them to stay and work in the UK.

  • Candidates must compile all the necessary documents for the visa application process.

  • Follow the instructions provided in the invitation to apply for the visa and complete the process before the specified deadline.
