Morgan State University is a public historically black research university in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1867, the university, then known as the Centenary Biblical Institute, changed its name to Morgan College to honour Reverend Lyttleton Morgan, the first chairman of its board of trustees and a land donor to the college. Morgan State University is ranked #293-#381 in National Universities by the US News 2020. Morgan State University is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). Morgan State University is authorised by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) and a host of other academic accreditation bodies. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Situated in an urban setting, the campus size of Morgan State University is 170 acres. The University operates twelve colleges, schools, and institutes for Liberal Arts, Business and Management, Education and Urban Studies, Engineering, Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences to name a few. The most popular majors at Morgan State University include Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services; Engineering; Education; Communication, Journalism, and Related Programs; and Social Sciences. The average freshman retention rate, an indicator of student satisfaction, is 74 percent.

Accomplishments & Alumni

Bears, the University’s athletic team, has excelled in sports especially football. Alumni of Morgan State University have made a name in the fields of athletics, science, government and the military including four members of the NFL Football Hall of Fame (Willie Lanier, Roosevelt Brown, Leroy Kelly, and Len Ford). Black Enterprise Magazine publisher Earl Graves, Lieutenant General William "Kip" Ward, The New York Times sports columnist William C. Rhoden, playwright, TV producer, and entrepreneur David E. Talbert, and American-Israeli Olympic sprinter Donald Sanford have studied at Morgan State University.
