JEE Main 2026 January 24 Session 1 exam has been conducted successfully in two shifts: morning shift from 9 AM to 12 PM, afternoon shift from 3 PM to 6 PM. Those of you who appeared on Day 4 can find the exam analysis for both shifts updated here. As per the first reactions shared by a student, Rupa -"The shift 1 paper was of moderate level, with Maths being the toughest section. Physics and Chemistry were moderately okay and doable."Looking at today's and the previous exam shifts, our expert,Sakunth Kumarreflects -"Usually, most students find the Mathematics section tricky and time-taking due to complex calculations as compared to Physics or Chemistry. Nevertheless, none of the questions are ever asked from outside the syllabus. If you have a strong grip over the basics and formulas then you should be able to attempt the maximum number of questions confidently."

Shift 2 paper, on the other hand, was also moderate according to the students. One student from Kota centre, Anuv Rajpoot shared -"The Maths section was the toughest, while Physics and Chemistry were doable but lengthy."A detailedJEE Main 2026 paper analysiswith subject-wise breakdown, good attempts, and difficulty level is provided here to help you assess your performance and predict estimated scores.

JEE Main 2026 January 24 Shift 1 Analysis: Subject-Wise Difficulty Level, Good Attempts

Get JEE Main 2026 January 24 Shift 1 detailed analysis based on expert reviews and student feedback here.

  • JEE Main Jan 24 shift 1 paper was of an average level, with predicted good attempts around 43-45.

  • "For me, Mathematics was the toughest section. I found it confusing and lengthy, which is why I couldn't complete all the questions. I would rate the paper 6/ 10, only because Physics and Chemistry were a bit better."- Rupa, a student from West Bengal.

  • "Mathematics difficulty level was moderate to tough, similar to earlier shifts. A few questions were lengthy and time-consuming, requiring careful time management and strong problem-solving skills."- Jagruti Shah, student from Vadodara.

  • "I found the Physics paper easy to moderate. Questions were predictable with no major surprises, making it manageable for me to attempt all the questions."- Soham Mehra, JEE taker and IIT aspirant from Nagpur.

  • "The theoretical section of Physics was solely conceptual based and easy for most students to answer. One question was asked from Microscope, almost after 2-3 years. Around 8-9 questions were calculative as per students, so I would say 18-20 could be a good attempt in this section" -Kurra Srinivas, Retired Physics faculty from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, 30 years of experience in teaching Class 12, JEE Mains and NEET aspirants.

  • "The Chemistry questions were spread across Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry. The majoroty of the questions were numerical-based, especially from Physical Chemistry. Some 3-4 statement-based conceptual questions were also asked. Relying on NCERT concepts proved helpful."- Akruti Jain. student from Surat.

  • “The 24th January Shift 1 paper clearly highlighted a growing trend in JEE Main with a strong emphasis on numerical ability and NCERT-based conceps. With practical Organic Chemistry questions being repeated across shifts, students who observe patterns, revise consistently, and focus on fundamentals are better positioned for upcoming exams.”- Ujjwal Singh, subject expert at Infinity Learning.

Based on the feedback received, here's an overview of subject-wise difficulty, good attempts, and key observations:

SubjectDifficulty LevelGood AttemptsKey Observations
MathematicsModerate to Tough8-10Similar to earlier papers. A few questions were lengthy and time-consuming, requiring careful time management and strong problem-solving skills.
PhysicsEasy to Moderate18-20Aligned with previous shifts. Questions were predictable with no major surprises, making it manageable for prepared students.
ChemistryEasy and Balanced20Questions were spread across Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry. Numerical questions dominated, especially from Physical Chemistry, with a few statement-based conceptual questions. NCERT-based preparation proved effective.
OverallModerate43-45Overall difficulty was moderate. Comparable to Jan 22 Shift 2, with Chemistry emerging as a scoring section.

JEE Main 2026 January 24 Shift 2 Analysis: Subject-Wise Difficulty Level, Good Attempts

A comprehensive exam analysis for JEE Main 2026 January 24 Shift 2 highlighting subject-wise high-weightage topics, difficulty level breakdown, and predicted good attempts has been shared below

  • Prabal Negi, a student from Guwahati, said -"Chemistry was lengthier than previous years. It took me more than 60 minutes to solve the questions, leaving me with no time to attempt Maths questions."

  • Aashna Miraj, a test-taker from Allahabad centre, shared -"The maximum number of questions were asked from Physical Chemistry. I also found a few questions from mixed chapters, which got me confused and took me more time to solve."

  • Kuldeep Singh, a student who interviewed with CLD, revealed -"The Physics section was comparatively easier than than Maths and Chemistry. Some questions were calculative. Around 5 questions were based on lengthy numerical problems."

  • "3 questions were asked from Ray Optics, 2 from Modern Physics."- Sakshi Gautam, from Ludhiana.

  • "Majority of the questions in Physics were based on NCERT 11th std concepts."- Shivani Atti, from Solan.

  • Our expert, Sakunth Kumar, comments -"NTA has maintained the standards and looking at some questions, I would say, the paper difficulty is at par with JEE Advanced. The shift 2 paper today saw a mix of conceptual questions from Electrochemistry and Atomic Structure in Chemistry, so needless to say, students need to have a solid conceptual clarity. The last shift on Jan 28 is going to be no less, so expect the same moderate to tough difficulty level."
