How to Seek Admission to Top NITs?

Getting admission into NITs is a dream come true for many students who want to pursue engineering. The selection criteria for NITs are based on merit judged by the All India Ranking (AIR) of the JEE Main exam. NIT cutoffs for General category candidates range between 81 and 89, while for reserved categories, it range from 40 to 75. Although NITs have lower cutoffs than IITs, candidates still need to achieve minimum scores to get admission into top institutes. The admission to NIT is reserved 50% for candidates of the native state. JoSAA publishes the JEE Main cutoff for top NITs in some of the most popular B Tech courses after the counselling rounds are completed. However, it is important to note that cutoff ranks are decided by individual institutes and will vary for each.

National Testing Agency (NTA) releases the list of JEE Main 2025 participating institutes in online mode at jeemain.nta.ac.in. The JEE Main 2025 participating institutes are the colleges that accept admissions based on the ranks secured by the candidates in the JEE Main exam. JEE Main participating institutes 2025 comprise 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), 26 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), 23 Indian Institute of Information Technology (IITs), and 38 Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).

When will the JEE Main 2025 NIT Cutoff be released?

JEE Main NIT Cutoff 2025 will be released after each round of JoSAA counselling. JoSAA counselling will be conducted for granting admission into B.Tech courses offered by 31 NITs.  

How many institutes are participating in the JEE Main 2025 exam?

Through the JEE Main 2025 scores, the candidates will be able to apply for admission across 32 NITs, 26 IIITs and 37 GFTIs. Various state and private colleges also offer admissions on the basis of the JEE Main scores.  

What are the qualifying marks for the JEE Main 2025 exam?

The qualifying marks for the JEE Main 2025 exam is subjective owing to a variety of factors significant in its calculation and normalization. The cutoff for general category candidates is generally tipped to be between 89 and 100. It is ideal to score above this mark or rank under 15,000 to be on the safer side and increase the possibilities of admission into a top institute of the country.  

Is the JEE Main Cutoff 2025 same for all the categories?

No, the JEE Main cutoff is not the same for all the categories. NTA releases the maximum and minimum scores required for each category individually. Additionally JoSAA also releases JEE Main Admission Cutoff for B.Tech admission to NITs and IIITs separately for different categories.   

What is the expected JEE Main Cutoff for Civil Engineering at NIT Trichy?

JEE Main Cutoff for Civil Engineering at NIT Trichy will be released by JoSAA after every round of counselling. In 2023, NIT Trichy JEE Main closing rank for CE was 33703 for General category, 11426 for OBC-NCL category, and 6569 for SC category.  

Will the JEE Main NIT cutoff be released individually?

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is responsible for preparing and releasing the cutoff of NITs.  

How is the JEE Main rank prepared?

JEE Main rank is prepared by compositing the scores of the JEE Main entrance exam and the marks of class 12 in the ratio of 60:40. According to it, the scores are arranged based on the merit of the candidates.  

Are Category ranks and All India Ranks the same?

No. All India Ranks and Category ranks are not the same. Category ranks imply the ranks secured by the candidates in their respective categories. However, AIR is the overall rank of the candidate irrespective of the category he/she belongs to.  

What is the JEE Main Cutoff for NITs?

JEE Main Cutoff for NITs is released in the form of opening and closing ranks for admission into various B.Tech courses offered by the institutes. Based upon the previous year cutoffs, a score around 200 will get candidates a rank below 5000 which is enough to get admission into top NITs.  

How many NITs are there in total?

There are in total 31 NITs. All of them are categorized under autonomous public institutions for higher education in India. Out of the 31 NITs, 11 are relatively newly established whereas the remaining 20 are old engineering institutes.
