Good Score and Rank in JEE Main 2024

What is a Good Score and Rank in JEE Main 2024? This is a question most of the aspirants stumble upon. A good score in JEE Main 2024 can help one secure coveted seats in top IITs or NITs. While there's no sure-shot formula for success, having an understanding of good score and rank in JEE Main can help candidates aspire and plan accordingly. Securing 250 marks in JEE Main with a rank of 25,000 is considered good. While a score of 180+ can land seats into BTech programmes at NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, securing 250 and above can easily get one qualified for JEE Advanced, which can further bring them closer to getting admission at IITs. However, along with a good score, a good rank in JEE Main 2024 is also important to secure seats at top institutes.

What is NTA Score in JEE Mains?

The NTA score shows the proportion of candidates who, during the same session, received a score that was either lower than or equal to that of a particular candidate. Remember that the average of the scores for each individual subject does not equal the total NTA score. Actually, the NTA score in JEE Mains consists of averaged scores from multiple-session papers. Based on the comparative performance of all candidates who took the test in a single session, these scores were determined. The candidates' scores are converted into a scale for every session that goes from 100 to 0.

The NTA score in JEE Main is indicative of the positional rank or percentile that a candidate has secured in the exam. This score is calculated based on the performance of the candidates in the exam. It is used to create the JEE Main Merit List 2024 of the qualifying candidates. The JEE Main normalisation procedure is used to calculate the best of the scores across the two sessions which is then used to generate the All India Ranking Merit List.

JEE Main 2024 Normalization Method and Percentile

One of the most common things that comes to candidates' mind after the conclusion of the exam is the comparison of JEE Main score vs percentile. The National Testing Agency (NTA) uses a normalization formula to specify the percentile rank in Maths, Chemistry, and Physics subjects. This JEE Main normalization method is also used to determine the JEE Main merit list. The JEE Main percentile score is calculated to the seventh decimal place to avoid any possible deadlocks. It is calculated after concluding the normalization method for each session on a scale of 100 - 0.

The JEE Main normalization formula used to calculate the percentile is given below:

100 x (The number of candidates whose raw session score is equal to or less than the candidate’s total score) / (The total number of candidates who participated in that particular session)

FAQs

88 percentile in JEE Mains means how many marks?

88 percentile in JEE Mains is equivalent to 61 to 70 marks, which is low.

Is 100 marks good for NIT?

A score of 100 in JEE Main gives you a rank of about 2 lakh. It also depends on how high you are aiming. If you want to go for NITs situated in the north east,a score of about 130–140 will be enough but if you are eyeing top NITs like NIT Trichy, you will need to get 270+.

Can I get NIT with 92 percentile?

With your score of 92 percentile you can secure admission in any of the non-core branches (i.e. electronics and community, computer science, mechanical and civil) in the top 10 NITs. A percentile score of 92 in JEE Mains is a good achievement, but the admission criteria for the top colleges can vary significantly.

Is 70 a good score in the JEE Main 2024 exam?

With a 60-70 percentile range in JEE Main 2024, it is unlikely for candidates to secure a seat in the elite NITs and IIITs as these institutes demand a minimum percentile score of 85-90. Therefore it becomes a challenge for the candidates to get into the top-notch colleges.

What is NTA score vs percentile?
