Factors Affecting Minimum UCEED 2026 Score Required for IITs
Following the factors determining the UCEED 2026 cutoff scores required for admission to IITs:- Since the formula: mean (μ) + 0.5 * standard deviation (σ) is employed to determine the Part A qualifying cutoff for the General category, if the scores obtained by the candidates is overall higher, they raise μ and σ, as a result of which the cutoffs go up.
- If the difficulty level of the question paper is high, the average scores are lower, as a result of which the minimum required cutoffs go down. Hence, there is an inverse effect on μ/σ.
- Rank density will be impacted by the total number of applicants and qualifying rate. Approximately, 15,000-20,000 candidates apply for the UCEED exam. If the total number of applicants for the UCEED 2026 exam is higher, it is quite possible that many candidates may obtain top scores. In such cases, raising the needed total score is required.
- The minimum required UCEED scores also depend on the seat matrix changes at IITs. Top AIRs will be tightened if there are limited seats across IITs (close to 300). For example, IIT Bombay has only 37 seats and you need to score at least 220+ to become qualified for admission.
- Owing to round-wise withdrawals in counseling, closing ranks are pushed higher in later rounds.
- The UCEED 2026 cutoffs will be typically lower for reserved categories (SC/ ST/ OBC/ EWS/ PwD).
