UCEED admission process is such that aspirants need to first appear for Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED 2018). Candidates who make it to the merit list of this exam then need to apply separately at the respective colleges that offer admission based on aspirant’s UCEED rank.
This examination is different from other Design entrance exams because of its ‘No Drawing’ feature. The test only focuses on candidates’ Observation skills, Visual Ability, Ability to deduce from shapes & figures (Spatial Ability), Sensitivity to Design requirements and Social and Environmental awareness. It lays no stress on Drawing as a part of the test. This attracts many of those aspirants who’re extremely good at Analytical Abilities but lack drawing skills.

Detailed Paper Analysis of UCEED 2018 by Experts & Students
According to students, the question paper seemed to be easy and almost similar to UCEED 2017. Sources say that the questions for UCEED 2018 were moderate and time management was the key to solve all the questions.
Only one section carried negative marking that is MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions). But when students started attempting the paper, they found it difficult to complete in the stipulated time. Compared to the other two sections, NAT (Numerical Aptitude Test) was a bit lengthy and time-consuming. Some questions in MSQ (Multiple Selection Questions) section were a bit tricky.
As per the analysis by Collegedekho, several unexpected questions from Probability (Mathematics) appeared this time for the exam.
English questions were a little uncertain but were in the same number as the previous year.
Design & Aptitude laid more stress on Spatial, Verbal and Mechanical Ability. Questions about Verbal, Spatial and Mechanical Ability topics especially involving images appeared as expected in a very good number.
Overall, the question paper covered broad topics which gave the platform for everyone to secure good marks. Some aspirants said they did well in NAT, while others performed well in MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) and MSQ sections. So, there are chances that the average marking and maximum marks would remain just like in the previous year.
As per Collegedekho, the minimum marks requirement per section (for General Category) for making it to the rank list should be:
IIT Bombay conducted the UCEED 2017 on 22nd January, 2017 (Sunday) across 19 test centres in India for around 10,000 candidates who applied for the examination. Admission to the B.Des courses at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati annd IIIT Design and Manufacturing Jabalpur will be offered on the basis of candidates' UCEED rank. The UCEED exam score is valid for one year only.
Expert Analysis & Students' Reactions
The UCEED question paper 2017 turned out to be quite tricky and, therefore, managing time became a problem for the test takers. The difficulty level of UCEED 2017 was higher in comparison with previous years. According to some students, the UCEED question paper seemed easy at first and almost similar to the 2016 but found it difficult to complete within the given time duration as they started attempting the paper.
Another important change that students found in the paper was that negative marking was not applicable on all the sections as used to be the case previously. There was only one section MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) where negative marking was applied.
NAT (Numerical Aptitude Test) was quite lengthy and time-consuming as compared to other two sections, and there were some questions in MSQ (Multiple Selection Questions) section that turned out to be quite tricky.
UCEED 2017 consisted of three sections:
No. of Questions
Marks Per Question
Section A - NAT
Section B - MSQ
Section C - MCQ
The answer key for UCEED 2017 was published on January 28, 2017 and the results were announced on 20th February, 2017. Candidates had access to their scorecards by 27th February, 2017. Based on the UCEED ranks 2017, the seat allotment began from 4th July, 2017.
Disclaimer: All details related to analysis have been gathered from various sources, and are subject to change. Candidates must cross-check with the official website of the examination before taking a final decision.
There are various UCEED 2019 participating colleges all across India where design aspirants can apply for admission. The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design 2019 (UCEED 2019) will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay under the guidance of the UCEED admissions committee 2019. The students who wish to study Bachelor's in Design (B.Des) have to appear for this examination on 19th January 2019 across 24 test cities in India and one exam center in Dubai. The UCEED 2019 participating colleges might call candidates for further selection rounds post the written exam.
Once the exam is conducted, a merit list is prepared for candidates who successfully qualify the exam. The ones who make it to the merit list have to individually apply at the colleges where they are getting admission on the basis of their UCEED rank.
How to Choose a College
There are certain parameters that candidates should keep in mind before choosing a college. Some of them are:
Fee Structure: One of the most important points to consider while looking for a suitable college is the fee structure. While choosing a college, compare two or more colleges on the basis of their fee structure.
Placement: Placement is another important aspect a student should pay heed to while deciding the college. The ultimate achievement for every college student is to have a good workplace, so make sure you understand the placement criteria of the colleges you are selecting.
Campus: A student should definitely go through the pictures of the campus, or visit the college once, to get an idea of the campus infrastructure such as the state of the building, water availability, libraries, classrooms, labs, power supply, etc. A decent college will have its infrastructure in place.
Faculty: A good faculty makes a lot of difference and it is a very important factor, which should be taken into consideration. Faculty is significant for offering the necessary guidance to the students and for that, a team of full-time and well-qualified faculty is necessary. So, choose a college which is renowned for its faculty.
Important Points to Remember
A little bit of research should be done about the colleges by the students regarding the history of the college, affiliation of the college before deciding.
Candidates should make sure that they have some idea about the interview criteria once they get their UCEED scores.
Every college has a cut-off list for the exams, so the candidates should know if their score has made it to the cut-off of their desired college or not.
Candidates should have all the required documents while taking admission in a particular college. Lack of even one document can result in a candidate losing his/her seat.
Colleges Accepting UCEED 2019 Score
While the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programmes offered at the following colleges have the same framework, the content of the design courses can vary from college to college. Candidates should also keep in mind that reservation of seats in these colleges is applicable.
There are many other colleges, apart from the ones mentioned above, where candidates can apply for admission through UCEED. Colleges other than the those given above would not participate in Joint Admission Counselling held by IIT Bombay for the academic year 2019-2020.
IIT Bombay conducts the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) for candidates seeking admission in Bachelor of Design programme (B.Des) offered at IIT Bombay. To begin preparing for UCEED, you must know why is the exam conducted in the first place. The exam is basically meant to test your Visualisation and Spatial Ability, Environmental and Social Awareness, Observation and Design Sensitivity, Analytical and Logical Reasoning, Design Thinking, Language and Creativity, as well as Problem Solving skills.
There are usually three types of questions, which are asked in UCEED:
Numerical answer type (where the answer has to be a numerical value)
Multiple select questions (where one or more than one answer can be right)
Multiple choice questions (where you have to mark only one right answer)
We have compiled a list of things that you should and shouldn't do in order to prepare for UCEED:
2. You must start your preparation for UCEED well in advance as the range of knowledge and aptitude tested for the examination is vast.
3. Although UCEED is a computer-based test and does not have a drawing section, there are questions based on fundamentals of drawing. In that case, understanding concepts and theories of drawing such as perspective, shade, human figure and proportion, shadows and textures is essential.
4. You should have a good understanding of elements and basic principles of design, such as colour theory, animation techniques and typography.
5. You must read newspapers, general knowledge books, research on the internet or watch youtube videos to improve your vocabulary, general knowledge and current affairs.
6. There could be questions based on basic topics of science, math and computer science. Hence, try and brush up such topics.
7. Also, try and familiarise yourself with information on famous designers and iconic products, Art history and movements, Architectural history, monuments, terminology, popular logos - automobiles, companies or organisations, internationally recognised Indians in the corporate or technology sector, sports, and also any famous international personality. However, you must keep in mind the fact that questions in UCEED will not be limited to these topics. There could be questions beyond these topics as well since UCEED is an open ended exam.
8. Make a study plan as per the availability of time. Only cover topics that you feel can be possibly covered in the given period rather than just going through all the topics.
9. Practice questions papers from previous years so that you know the type of questions to expect in the UCEED exam.
10. You do not have to spend time on practicing drawing for UCEED because it is an online exam, and it does not involve drawing.
