What is Agricultural Engineering?

Agricultural Engineering is one of the core Engineering papers included in the GATE 2024 syllabus. This engineering branch deals with applying engineering science and design principles for agricultural purposes. GATE Agricultural Engineering (AG) Exam Pattern 2024

IISc Bangalore has released the GATE 2024 exam pattern for all papers, including Agricultural Engineering, on the official website. Candidates can check out the paper pattern of GATE Agricultural Engineering 2024 here –
  • The GATE Agricultural Engineering 2024 paper will be held in online mode

  • The Agricultural Engineering paper in GATE 2024 is divided into two sections – General Aptitude carrying 15 marks and Subject-specific carrying 85 marks.

  • The total duration of the paper is 180 minutes

  • Candidates will have to attempt Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) or Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.

  • The subject-specific section will also feature questions worth 13 marks on Engineering Mathematics.

  • Each question will carry 1 mark or 2 marks

  • For a 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 marks will be deducted for an incorrect answer; for a 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

  • Negative marking is not applicable for incorrect answers to NAT/MSQ questions; there is no partial marking for MSQ questions.

  • The section on Soil and Water Conservation Engineering carries the maximum weightage with approximately 15 questions likely to be asked in the exam.

  • Candidates can expect 10-12 questions to appear from the Engineering Mathematics section. This is a more calculative part and has a total of 13 marks allotted to it. Therefore, students with a good grip on formula-based, numerical equations can score very well in this section.

  • The sections on General Aptitude and Farm Machinery carry a decent number of questions. Based on the previous year’s analysis, one can expect approximately 10 questions each from these sections.
