GATE Petroleum Engineering (PE) Exam Pattern 2024

Along with the GATE Petroleum Engineering 2024 syllabus, candidates must also go through the exam pattern of the paper to get an idea of the question distribution and section-wise marks allotment in this section.
  • GATE Petroleum Engineering 2024 paper will be conducted in online mode

  • The total duration of the paper is 3 hours

  • The GATE PE 2024 paper is divided into three sections – General Aptitude worth 15 marks, and Subject-specific worth 72 marks.

  • The subject-specific section will include questions on Engineering Mathematics carrying 13 marks

  • Candidates are required to attempt Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) or Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.

  • Each question will carry 1 mark or 2 marks

  • For a 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer; for a 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

  • Negative marking is not applicable for incorrect answers to NAT/MSQ questions; there is no partial marking for MSQ questions.
