Is there HSC Weightage in MHT CET 2026? Detailed Analysis

HSC Board marks do not influence your MHT CET 2026 rank. While 45% is required for eligibility, the final merit list is 100% determined by your normalized MHT CET percentile score.

In case you have been hearing about a 50-50 weightage rule where your Class 12 Board marks are added toMHT CET 2026score in case of admissions to engineering, then you need to take note of it. There was actually a proposal that half the weightage be allowed toMaharashtra HSC Boardmarks and half to MHT CET marks to select the merit list. But in the 2026 session for B.E./B.Techand Pharmacy programmes, this rule has not been applied.

As of 2026, the final merit list and rank of the engineering admissions in Maharashtra, the only official authority of the MHT CET, is 100% based on the MHT CET Normalized Percentile.Your MSBSHSE, CBSE or ICSE HSC marks do not increase or decrease your rank in the admission process.

The bottom line: MHT CET percentile is all that matters in the end when it comes to your rank. So your full concentration must be on your MHT CET 2026 exam.

MHT CET 2026 Eligibility Criteria vs. Merit Criteria

Eligibility (HSC Marks) acts only as a gateway. You need a minimum of 45% (General) or 40% (Reserved) in PCM/PCB just to appear for MHT CET 2026, but these marks don't affect your rank. Your final seat is decided completely by your MHT CET normalized percentile score only. Let us understand this from the image below:

Why the 50-50 Weightage Rule Was Proposed

This 50-50 weightage was first proposed by the Maharashtra government and their intent was very fair about it. They thought that if HSC marks are given due weightage then it will decrease the dependence on the private coaching institutes and the state board (MSBSHSE) will gain their long lost glory because of the race to crack the CET.

This fact cannot be ignored that if board marks contribute 50% in the final merit score of the students, then they will focus more on their regular school curriculum rather than spending huge sums and time on the coaching institutes.

But this proposal could not be accepted because of the reason that in Maharashtra students from various boards appear for the exam like the MSBSHSE, CBSE, ICSE and various other boards and they all have different marking levels and difficulty levels. So normalising the marks across all these boards so that there is a level playing field and no student is disadvantaged was a very complex task in itself. So, only because of this challenge the 50-50 rule was put on hold and so such a timeline has been suggested for its implementation.

Navigating MHT CET 2026 Admissions without HSC Weightage

It is time that your focus must now shift from long-term preparation to strategy for post exam selection. As the 50-50 rule is still on hold for now, your admission strategy will totally depend on how you move through the Centralised Admission Process(CAP).

  • The Eligibility Gateway:Even though Board marks do not affect your ranking, they are still an obligatory obstacle. You should make sure that your overall HSC average reaches the 45% (General) or 40% (Reserved) in PCM. Failing here makes even a 99th percentile CET invalid.

  • CAP Round Tactics:The CS/IT branches competition will be stiff without the cushion of Board marks. You must make it a Percentile-Mapping, finding out the colleges where your own score has been in the past.

  • Document Verification:The selection stage is also unforgiving when it comes to paperwork. Make sure you have your Category, EWS or Validity certificates prepared. Even in a system where CET scores are fully used, a document mistake causing a student to switch from a Reserved to a General seat could cost him or her a prestigious institute.

By focusing on these tactical moves, you ensure that your hard-earned MHT CET percentile translates into the best possible college allotment.
