How to Prepare for MHT-CET 2018

Make a Proper Time-Table:

The first and foremost step to prepare for the entrance examination is to make a time table and to ensure that you stick to it. Proper time table will give you an exact idea of what you are required to study and the time required for it, which will in turn help you stay focused & goal-oriented.

Get Your Basics Right:

During your preparation, you must ensure that your basics and fundamentals are in place. Brushing up the basic concepts of a subject will help you tackle difficult questions in that area with great aplomb. Moreover, you are evaluated in entrance examinations based on your understanding of these.

Get Yourself into Examination Mode:

Practice as many sample tests or mock tests as you can. Ask for suggestions from your lecturer/tutor on what to expect in the examination, or what course materials should one refer to, and how to prioritise study time for the syllabus.

Don’t Forget to Revise:

Revision is the key to stay confident during the preparation process. You must leave ample amount of time to revise your subjects. As you finish preparing a topic, you must add to your schedule the day and time when it should be revised before you move on to the next topic.

Maintain your Physical and Mental balance:

It has been observed quite often that students neglect their health while preparing for examinations. Not staying physically fit can negatively impact your mental health and might even affect your performance on the exam day. Therefore, you must focus on your mental and physical health by eating well and exercising daily. You must also sleep on time everyday so that your body clock works in sync with the time slot of your final examination.

Important Instructions for Exam Day

  • Candidates will have to carry their valid admit card for taking the entrance exam.

  • Candidates must not create any disturbance in the exam hall.

  • Candidates must use black-ball point pen to mark/darken the appropriate circle in the OMR exam sheet.

  • Candidates should avoid overwriting and/or striking of once marked answers.

  • Rough work should be done only in the blank space provided in the Question Booklet. Rough work should not be done on the Answer Sheet.

MHT CET 2018 Exam Analysis

DTE Maharashtra conducts the MHT-CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) 2018 every year for admission to various undergraduate courses in the state. The state-level entrance exam has been conducted on 10th May, 2018. B.Tech and B.E. aspirants will be able to to get admission in the top engineering colleges of Maharashtra based on their MHT-CET scores.

Now that the exam is over, test takers must use the MHT CET 2018 Rank Predictor tool launched by CollegeDekho recently. With the help of this tool, students can estimate their scores as well as ranks. Apart from this, the MHT CET Rank Predictor is a great tool to help candidates know how they performed in the entrance exam.

Once candidates take the exam, the next stage for further selection will be the counselling process. Based on the MHT CET scores, candidates will be shortlisted and invited for the MHT-CET counselling and seat allotment process. Only those who meet the cut-offs provided by the engineering colleges of Maharashtra will be considered for admission.

On this page, you will find relevant information on MHT-CET 2018 Exam Analysis, as part of which you will get an insight into the overall as well as section-wise difficulty level of the entrance exam. You will also get to know the difficulty level of the paper from experts and the first reactions from test takers.

First Reactions

Candidates who appeared for the MHT-CET 2018 entrance exam on 10th May found the paper extremely easy. As Physics and Chemistry concluded, the first reaction we received from students and experts is that there were hardly any conceptual questions in the paper. Almost all the questions asked in the entrance exam were either information based or formula based.

Further, students said that they found MHT-CET 2018 to be one of the easiest engineering entrance exams. According to some, the difficulty level of the paper was not even half as compared to the JEE Mains 2018.

Another feedback received from the students is that they did not face any time management issue in both the papers this year. There were fewer calculations and some questions were even non-numerical.

This year, MHT-CET 2018 has witnessed a rise of almost 14% in the number of applicants from the state of Maharashtra. Around 4.34 lakh candidates registered for the exam this year. MHT-CET is conducted for candidates seeking admissions in engineering, pharmacy, agriculture and hotel management colleges in the state of Maharashtra.

All the 3 sections namely Maths, Physics, and Chemistry were of moderate difficulty level.

There were more of numerical-based questions in Physics as compared to theoretical questions.

In Chemistry, a lot of questions were asked from Chemical bonding and Organic Chemistry.

In Maths section, a lot of stress was on questions from Limits, Logs, calculus, probability, functions, and graphs. But nevertheless, the questions were not very difficult.

80% questions in all the 3 sections were from 12th class syllabus while just 10% of the questions were from 11th class syllabus.

As there were no negative marking, so one could have attempted all 150 questions.

For a well-prepared student, attempting 130 out of 150 questions was not very difficult at an accuracy of 85 to 90%.

This could result in a score of 150 plus, which is a very good score for securing a seat in the stream of choice in colleges like Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJIT), K J Somaiya and College of Engineering, Pune.

At a score of 130, one can expect a rank of close to 6000, which will also ensure sure shot admission in Top Govt Engineering Colleges and Universities.

A score of 100 is also a decent score for fetching a seat in Top 30 Engineering Colleges of Maharashtra.

As there are a lot of engineering colleges in the state of Maharashtra that offer admission on the basis of MHT CET, so one can get admission in other low ranked colleges even at a rank of 2 lakh.
