The MH CET Law 2026 Reservation Policy governs how seats are allocated for admission into 3-year and 5-year LLB programmes in legal institutions across the state of Maharashtra through theMH CET Law 2026 exam. This policy is formulated by the Maharashtra CET Cell and applied uniformly during the Centralised Admission Process (CAP). It aims to balance merit-based selection with affirmative action by reserving seats for various categories, including state domicile candidates, social and economic backward groups, and other special categories, ensuring equitable representation within law colleges.

Under the policy, seats in government and aided law colleges are primarily reserved for Maharashtra State (MS) candidates, typically around 85% of sanctioned intake, with additional quotas for All-India candidates (approximately 10%) and a 5% NRI/OCI/PIO/foreign candidate quota. Similarly, in unaided and self-financing institutions, a proportion of seats are earmarked for MS candidates with designated quotas for All-India and minority candidates as applicable.

The reservation framework extends further to provide social and economic upliftment benefits to eligible candidates from backward class communities within Maharashtra. Prominent among these are reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Vimukta Jati/De-Notified Tribes (NT-A), Nomadic Tribes (NT-B, NT-C, NT-D), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), cumulatively accounting for a significant share of seats under the state quota. Candidates must fulfil domicile requirements and submit appropriate caste and non-creamy layer certificates to avail these benefits. Additional reservations include quotas for children of defence personnel, Persons with Disabilities (PWD), EWS (Economically Weaker Sections), and orphan candidates, further reflecting the policy’s comprehensive approach to inclusivity and fairness.
