IIT after 12th Commerce and Arts: Right from its establishment in the year 1951, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has earned tremendous goodwill and has made itself more of a brand than just a mere institute. With an excellent placement record and a marvelous alumni network, IITs are rightly considered to be the premier engineering institutes in India.

Getting admission to one of the best engineering colleges in India is like a dream come true for every engineering aspirant and their struggle for this starts from the school level. Students looking forward to admission in these institutes have to appear for the JEE Mains and the JEE Advanced entrance examinations and once they clear these exams, they are further shortlisted for one of the Top Colleges of IIT in India on the basis of their ranks. But there is enough information already available about the Bachelor of Technology (BTech) and Master of Technology (MTech) courses at IITs and this article does not go into that.

While IITs have been primarily set up for engineering courses, they have added their own Humanities Social Sciences, and Management departments over the years and now students can take admission into Design, MA, and MBA programs at IITs. This widening in the scope of education offered at IITs has, in turn, benefited students from the Commerce, Arts, and Humanities streams, who can now look to India's most revered institutes for their higher education.

In this article, we explore some such IIT courses which can be pursued by Commerce, Arts, or Humanities students.

MBA from IITs

In the past couple of decades, many IITs started offering Masters of Business Administration (MBA) programmes. This was good news for BTech graduates as BTech + MBA was a popular specialisation in the market and its graduates were demanding higher salaries compared to their peers who opted to go for other post-graduate courses such as MTech.

These management courses offered by IITs fast started getting the attention of graduates from other disciplines as well and now these have become some of the most popular management programmes in India and have started getting the attention of the candidates who usually aspire to get admission into the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).

However, this was not that surprising as IITs have a global reputation for maintaining a world-class standard of education, research and infrastructure and IITs graduates can be found holding top positions in some of the most powerful companies and organisations of the world.

CollegeDekho has already covered all the details regarding MBA admission in IITs in a separate article, which includes courses, admission process, seats, fees, cut-off etc. of MBA specializations available in IITs.

Many class 12th Commerce and Arts students around the country are usually unaware of the fact that they can also get admission into IITs in some courses. Similarly, most of the science students also stay unaware of the fact that they can get admission into BSc and MSc courses at IITs. Getting more information about such courses is important as it helps you gain a wider perspective on what career path you may choose while also giving you a bigger arsenal of tools for building a successful career in the Commerce or Arts stream.
