The US is one of the top study abroad destinations for Indian students, as per the figures revealed in a recent summit. Of all the students choosing to study abroad, one-third goes to the US.

'One-third of Indian International Students are in the US'

At the three-day 'Global Impact Summit - 2022' at Woxsen University at Kamkole on April 11, 2022, Principal Commercial Officer, US Consulate Mr Andrew Edlefsen said that one-third of the overall Indian students studying abroad are in the US.

The summit was organised in the Munipally Mandal of Sangareddy district wherein 'Emerging Technologies and the Future of Higher Education Landscape in India' was the first thing to be talked upon.

Edlefsen expressed that education has been the most important bridge between US and India and that the same should be further strengthened through partnerships. In 2021, 167,000 Indian students were studying in the US, contributing to one-third of the total number of Indian students studying abroad.

Jayesh Ranjan, IT and Industries Secretary, inaugurated the summit and addressed the gathering thereafter. He stated that education is a medium that can bridge social and economic gaps within the Indian society.

A comparison was drawn between the Indian and Chinese economies, with both starting at the same GDP some 50 years ago. However, today, China is much stronger than India in terms of economic growth. Ranjan attributed this to the K-12 education system in India.

Ranjan added that six out of seven top leadership members, at the Qualcomm office in the US, were Indians and the same Indians perform far better when they go abroad, he noted. In addition, many corporate giants of the world are led by Indians, he highlighted.

Further, the practicalisation of education plays a huge role in making it effective. Mr Ranjan stated that internships must be made mandatory and monitored strictly.

He also applauded Telangana for becoming a role model in creating a supportive ecosystem for entrepreneurship.

Nishit Jain, Senior Advisor for (Asia)-European Foundation for Management Development, which is an international school accreditation system, stated the establishment aims to act as a bridge between academics and the corporate world.
