How to Convert CMAT 2026 Score to Percentile?
CMAT follows a percentile-based evaluation system, where raw marks are converted into percentiles using a normalisation process. This ensures fairness, especially when the exam is conducted in multiple shifts.
How CMAT Percentile Is Calculated
The CMAT percentile score hints at the percentage of exam takers who have scored equal to or less than a particular aspirant in the same session. The percentile, not raw marks, is used for while preparing merit lists after the results.
Some key points to note are as follows:
- Percentile scores are session-wise normalised.
- The highest scorer in each session is awarded a 100 percentile.
- Percentiles are calculated up to 7 decimal places to reduce ties.
- A percentile is not the same as the percentage of marks secured in CMAT.
CMAT Percentile Formula (Session-wise)
CMAT Percentile= (100 × Number of candidates in the session with raw score equal to or less than the candidate)/ ÷ Total number of candidates in that session
Example 1:
If 1,000 aspirants appeared in a CMAT session and a student scored higher than 970 candidates, then: (100 × 970) ÷ 1,000 = 97 percentile
Example 2:
If a session had 523 test takers and one aspirant scored higher than 508 of them: (100 × 508) ÷ 523 ≈ 97.13 percentile
Note: CMAT percentile is a normalised score calculated by NTA and is used for admission shortlisting. It should not be confused with raw score percentages.
