Kabaddi Club

  • Kabaddi at the national level is a sport that is achieving immense attention and support. Originated in rural India, the sport is practiced and followed by the country with immense enthusiasm and dedication. But the sport has had its fair share of problems especially in the rural set up.

  • This master’s project focuses on Bilagi taluk’s perseverance to become a Kabaddi champion taluk and how it isn’t materializing. Bilagi taluk has 35 Kabaddi clubs and there are more than 150 ‘black tournaments’ that happen every year.

  • Every year, at least two players from Bilagi taluk represent Bagalkot district and more recently, there have been players who have represented Karnataka as well.  Despite the increasing popularity and ever growing interest to play beyond Bilagi taluk, the clubs have received no aid with regards to affiliation, grounds and funds.

  •  Watch my master’s project for IIJNM 2014-15, which focuses on Bilagi taluk’s pursuit to achieve excellence in the sport and goes beyond Bilagi taluk to understand where the problem vests.
