The university was created by the Government of Uttarakhand under the Doon University Act, 2005 (Uttaranchal Adhiniyam Sankhya 18 of 2005) to build an autonomous and accountable institution of higher learning. The Act's goal is to create a self-governing and accountable higher education institution. As a result, the institution seeks to provide education that is both socially and economically useful. It also aspires to be a leader in cutting-edge research and pedagogy. With a large and difficult mandate, the institution began its first academic session in August 2009 and has proven capable of meeting the obstacles in such a short time.
Doon University was inspired by the vast gap in higher education excellence that Uttarakhand has been facing. The Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly enacted the Doon University Bill, 2005 (Uttaranchal Adhiniyam Sankhya 18 of 2005) on April 23, 2005, and the Governor signed it. On April 26, 2005, it was published in the Uttarakhand Gazette. The university's statutes were authorized on May 9, 2009, and the first academic session began on August 6, 2009. The Act's goal is to create a self-governing and accountable higher education institution. As a result, the university aspires to provide education that is both socially and economically relevant. It also aspires to be a leader in cutting-edge research and teaching approaches. The task is enormous and difficult.
The instructional method at Doon University is based on a fundamental understanding: pedagogical choice in the twenty-first century must reflect evolving educational, technical, professional, and societal demands and ambitions. This acceptance necessitates/demands a move away from traditional classroom-based, and teacher-centred training toward a more holistic approach to obtaining knowledge and skills fit for the times. This educational philosophy is expressed in four major parts of the Doon University curriculum.
All academic programs at Doon University are designed and equipped to help students move smoothly into their chosen professions. As a result, all Program curricula emphasize hands-on learning. Students will polish their knowledge and abilities for entry-level positions through a summer internship, mandatory project work in the final semester, and regular participation of visiting/guest teachers from diverse professions.
Students today require additional competencies in addition to a basic understanding of their subject areas to thrive in a highly competitive professional environment. Successful professional professions require the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently, as well as the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to solve problems and make choices. As a result, all courses and other academic activities strive to incorporate these features to assist students in learning these new skills. Additionally, as part of their degree requirements, students are urged to take courses in writing, oral, business, and professional communication.
