NSP Scholarship

NSP Scholarship 2025 (National Scholarship Portal) is a centralised digital platform that offers easy access to various scholarship schemes provided by the Central Government, State Governments, and government bodies like UGC and AICTE. Launched as a Mission Mode Project under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), NSP is designed to create a SMART (Simplified, Mission-oriented, Accountable, Responsive, and Transparent) system for efficient scholarship application and fund distribution. 

The major aim of NSP is to ensure there is no delay, avoiding any duplication, and providing timely financial assistance straight into the students' bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). NSP is a convenient portal bringing together many scholarship programs so that students of all educational streams, from school up to post-graduation, can apply for those on one platform. 

This single-window scheme removes the financial barriers that prevent students, specifically from economically and socially backward classes, from pursuing education. NSP is a revolutionary initiative for implementing inclusive education and improving access to government scholarships in India.

The National Scholarship Portal hosts 118 distinct scholarship programs with substantial financial value, catering to individuals seeking scholarships. This platform operates as a vital component of the government's comprehensive plan known as the 'Mission Mode Project' under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP).

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is a significant statutory body within the Indian government that plays a pivotal role in accrediting universities across the country and allocating financial support to them. Furthermore, UGC administers various scholarship programs aimed at assisting college-level students.

AICTE Scholarship Schemes

With a history dating back to 1945, AICTE plays a pivotal role in the coordinated development and strategic planning of technical and management education systems in India. In addition to its role in approving postgraduate and undergraduate programs in specific categories, AICTE also extends several scholarships to students, ensuring that financial constraints do not impede their professional aspirations. Below is a list of scholarships offered by AICTE through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for the year 2025:

State-Level NSP Scholarships

State Governments also offer scholarships for students who are permanent residents of the respective states. Some states have their portals for scholarships, while others prefer using the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for processing applications. Currently, the NSP has forty state-level scholarship schemes of fifteen states, namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura, and Uttarakhand.

A detailed list of these state scholarships available through NSP is provided in the table below.

 In the academic year of 2025, it facilitated the implementation and distribution of scholarships exceeding the sum of INR 2,800 crores (precisely INR 2,875.50). Notably, the portal has garnered over 127 lakh scholarship applications, with more than INR 84 lakh of these applications having undergone a thorough verification process.

The core objectives of the NSP encompass:

• Ensuring the prompt disbursement of scholarships to eligible students.
• Establishing a unified portal to encompass a wide array of scholarship schemes offered by both Central and State Governments.
• Building a transparent and accessible database of scholars to enhance visibility and accountability.
• Eliminating redundancy in the processing of scholarship applications streamlines the system for greater efficiency.
• Harmonising the diverse scholarship schemes and their associated norms to simplify the application and allocation processes.
• Implementing Direct Benefit Transfer for a more direct and efficient disbursement of funds to deserving recipients.

The eligibility criteria vary depending on the specific scholarship scheme. However, many require a minimum of 50% marks in the previous examination. Applicants must carefully review individual scheme guidelines before applying.

NSP Pre-Matric Scholarship

The eligibility criteria for pre-matric scholarship include the following.

• Minimum 50% marks in the previous final exam.
• Annual family income should not exceed INR 1 lakh.
• Applicable to students of minority communities (Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi).
• For students from Class I to X.
• Students must be enrolled in recognised government or private schools in India.

NSP Post Matric Scholarship

The eligibility criteria for post-matric scholarship include the following.

• Minimum 50% marks or equivalent grade in the last final examination.
• Annual family income must not exceed INR 2 lakh.
• Open to students in higher secondary schools, colleges, and universities (Classes XI & XII).
• Covers technical and vocational courses at ITIs and centers affiliated with NCVT.

Merit Cum Means Scholarship for Professional & Technical Courses (CS)

The eligibility criteria for pre-matric scholarship include the following.

• Minimum 50% marks in the previous final exam.
• Annual family income should not exceed INR 2.5 lakh.
• Applicable to undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing technical/professional courses.
• Students must study in institutions selected by the State Governments or UT Administrations.
• Admission must be secured through a competitive entrance exam or merit-based selection.

Before applying for any scholarship under the NSP scheme, you must first register on the website and perform a One-Time Registration (OTR). It is, however, important to check if your institute is registered on NSP before applying for a scholarship. In case it is not registered, you should request their institutes to register on the portal, as only students from registered institutes can apply.

Step 1: Search for Your Institute

• Visit the official NSP portal.
• Click on the ‘Options’ button on the top left.
• Select ‘Registered Institutes on NSP’ to search for your institution.
• If your institute is not listed, request the administration to register it on the portal.

Step 2: One-Time Registration (OTR)

• On the homepage, click on the ‘Students’ tab.
• Select ‘Login’ under the OTR section.
• Click on the ‘Register’ button.
• Read the instructions carefully, accept the declaration, and click ‘Next’.
• Enter your mobile number and verify it using the OTP received.
• Provide your Aadhaar number (student’s or parent’s) and verify it via OTP.
• Fill in your basic personal details (name, email, parents’ names, etc.).
• Submit the form to generate a Temporary Registration Number.
• Download the NSP OTR Mobile App and complete face authentication to activate your registration.

Step 3: Log in to NSP

• After face authentication, return to the portal and log in using the Application ID and password.
• Note: Login is not possible until the face authentication is completed.

Step 4: Change Password (Mandatory)

• After logging in, an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
• Enter the OTP and proceed to change your password.
• Set a new password and continue.

Step 5: Fill Out the Application Form

• Access the Applicant Dashboard and click on ‘Application Form’.
• Fill in your personal, academic, and registration details.
• Click ‘Save & Continue’.
• Add your contact information, select the scholarship scheme, and upload the required documents.
• Click ‘Save as Draft’ to review the information.
• Once verified, click on ‘Final Submit’.

While applying for any scholarship on NSP, you must submit/ upload certain documents for their application to be considered. If the scholarship amount is less than INR 50,000, no uploading is required, you should submit the hard copies of the documents either to the respective school, college, or institution concerned. For payment amounts greater than INR 50,000, you must prepare all the following originals:

1. Bank Passbook
2. Educational Documents
3. Aadhaar Number
4. Domicile Certificate (as specified in the scholarship guidelines)
5. Income Certificate (as specified in the scholarship guidelines)
6. Caste Certificate (if applicable)
7. Bonafide Student Certificate (required if the school/institute is located in a state different from the applicant’s domicile)

  • Other Backward Class (OBC): INR 50,000
• Provides help for students belonging to minority communities, economically weaker sections, and the disabled.
• Sends reminders on important dates as well as on application status through SMS and email.
