SIBM Pune: Programmes, Exam and Selection Criteria

Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Pune is one of the first institutes started by the Symbiosis Society and was established in the year 1978. It is a private and coeducational institute located in Maharashtra India. The institute is recognized by UGC and the AICTE.

SIBM is part of the prestigious Symbiosis International University that is known for its quality of education standards and excellent industrial exposure. The university has a total of 28 academic institutions that are spread over ten locations in Pune, Bangalore, Noida, Nashik and Hyderabad. Today, SIBM is regarded as one of the premier B-schools in India and offers some of the best management courses.

Following are the programmes offered by SIBM Pune:

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • MBA – Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E)
  • MBA Executive
  • Post Graduate Diploma (PGD)
  • Post-Graduate Diploma in Family Business (PGDFB)

SIBM has its own exam and selection criteria basis which it selects students for its various management programmes. SNAP is the exam conducted by the institute basis which it selects students for personality assessment rounds. SIBM has also been known to select students on the basis of CAT scores occasionally. Students with exceptional scores in the CAT exam can also apply for SIBM Pune.

Following are the exams accepted by SIBM Pune:

Selection is done in two phases conducted as follows:

Programme Phase 1 Phase 2
MBA Academic profile and SNAP score of candidates who have cleared the cutoff is evaluated for selection in Phase one. Those who are selected in phase one are then called for Written Ability Test, Group Exercise and Personal Interview.
MBA (I&E) Selection in this phase is done on the basis of the score secured by a candidate in SNAP exam. Shortlisted candidates are called directly for Personal Interview. There is no GD or GE round for selection in this programme.
MBA Executive Candidates have to clear the written test conducted by SIBM Pune to clear the Phase 1 of selection. Work experience and past academic performance of a candidate also play an important role. Selected candidates will have to clear the Personal Interview to take admission in this programme.
PGD / PGDFB Selection is done solely on the basis of candidate’s application. Here the candidate will be judged on the basis of his performance in 12th, 10th board examination and marks in graduation. Once the candidates are through with the Phase 1, they will have to clear the Personal Interview round to get enrolled in either of these programmes.

NOTE: Final selection is done by evaluating the cumulative performance of a candidate in both the phases.

The cutoff varies yearly but following are the expected cutoffs of SNAP with respect to the various colleges that offer management programmes and are affiliated to the Symbiosis International University:

Candidates will only be eligible for the selection process if they have cleared the SNAP cutoff set by the institute. SIBM, Pune also focuses on selecting students from different academic backgrounds.
