Capt. Williamson Memorial College was established in 1992 with a view to provide higher education to the people of this most backward part of the State. The prominent members who initiated to open the college were late Lotsing A. Sangma, the then local MLA of Baghmara and the man behind this College, Shri P.S. Thankhiew, I.A.S, the then Deputy Commissioner of South Garo as the Chairman, Shri J. D Sangma, M.C.S, the then B. D. O, of Baghmara Development Block as the Secretary of the Governing Body of the College was constituted. Initially the College was housed in the Town Committee Hall of Baghmara in the evening shift with Shri Donberd Sangma as the In-charge -Principal along with the two other par time teachers namely, Shri Dillip Kr. Saha, Headmaster of Rangku Memorial Girls’ Secondary School and Shri S. K. Dubbey, Assistant teacher of Jawahar .Novadaya Vidyalaya, Baghmara and continued till it was shifted to its existing building on 6th June 1997.Presently the college offers 10 + 2 and Degree (Arts) with Honours Courses in English, Education, Political Science, Economics and Garo. The enrollment strength as recorded in the last academic year was 906 students.
