Hailed and venerated as the Heritage College of the DAVs, this institution is very close to the DAV world-view and its historiography. DAV College ( Lahore ), Ambala City , has a sacrosanct and hallowed history dating back to 1886 when it was established at Lahore with Mahatma Hans Raj as its honorary Principal. The year 1886 proved a watershed year as the institutionalization of college education in India by the DAVs had a historically significant ripple-effect which ultimately led to the birth and growth of a long chain of centres of higher education in India . Mahatma Hans Raj served this institution with humility, dedication and a missionary spirit. This DAV College in particular is a matrix of the Dayanand Anglo Vedic renaissance which played a stellar role in rejuvenating in a society intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Ever since its inception, this nodal college has been accoladed and honoured as a signifier of the core ideology of the DAV macrocosm. After partition, the college was relocated at Ambala city in 1948. Great stalwarts like Principal Bhagwan Dass, Dr GL Datta, Lala Suraj Bhan, Prof Ved Vyas and Padam Bhushan Sh GP Chopra played a stupendous role in its rehabilitation, growth and progress. The college has acquired an excellent brand image, through its sterling contributions to higher education in the state of Haryana over many decades. Emphasis has always been to integrate moral values with physical, intellectual and spiritual development of young men and women, so that they become responsible citizens, who are to shape the destiny of the nation. The mission of the college is to impart education by fusing ancient Indian values with modern, western, scientific outlook. True to its mission, the college offers a wide variety of educational programmes to the students. These include the vocational programmes such as BBA , BCA, B Sc (Electronic Equipment Maintenance) and BCom (Vocational), besides the traditional programmes. Today, thousands of its students have risen to eminence as administrators, lawyers, educationists, doctors, engineers and industrialists. The college has produced eminent achievers like scholars, scientists, doctors, judges, lawyers and political leaders in its long history, including Nobel Laureate Dr Hargobind Khorana, former Vice President of India, (Late) Shri Krishna Kant and former Prime Minister of India, Shri Inder Kumar Gujral. In fact, the college has been the lonely ranger imparting Science Degree courses in Punjab and Haryana region for many-many years in its early period since moving to Ambala city. DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi has nomenclature this college as the Heritage College. STRUCTURE The college has, over a period of time, put in place good infrastructure and learning resources, to enable effective teaching-learning processes to take place. Spread over an area of 15.59 acres with a faculty of 60 and its student strength of 1750, the college has breath-taking, lush-green campus, sprawling playgrounds, multi-storeyed campus structures consisting of Arts Block, Commerce Block, Science Block and Post-Graduate Block, with a recent addition of Conference Hall with well-equipped audio-visual facilities for seminars, workshops, group discussions, brain-stormings, and lectures. The college has a full-fledged Teachers Colony consisting of 14 flats. A Housing Complex has also been newly built for the non-teaching faculty. The college has a Cafeteria, a Guest House and a Health Care Center. The library is well stocked, and it has some rare books brought from Lahore and is professionally managed, under the guidance of a Library Committee in place. The centre subscribes to Journals in various disciplines, and a good number of magazines. There is a Central Computing Center , which is well equipped, with a good number of computers. The departments of Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geography, Electronics and Computer Science are provided with adequately equipped laboratories. The Commerce Department has its own Computer Lab that is used to offer the compulsory computing inputs, in its programme, besides using for other programmes that it offers. The infrastructure facilities for a variety of sports such as Football, Basketball, Hockey, Cricket and Table tennis are in place, in the college, to provide for the recreation and growth of students. The college has also facilities for well equipped indoor sports/common rooms for both men and women students. Besides these, the college has a Students Day Care Center , Gymnsium, Weightlifting Centre and Badminton Court True to its mission, the college has a Yajya Shala, to impart spiritual lessons to the students. The important feature of the college is that it has acquired a good number of audio-visual materials, to supplement classroom teaching. SUBSTANCE The college faculty has shown leadership in introducing new programmes in the region. It is noteworthy that many faculty members from the college have done their PhD while in service. A research centre has been established in the Department of English and some faculty members have been guiding M. Phil students. Some of the faculty members have authored textbooks and contributed papers to books. The college is engaged in a number of extension activities through its NSS unit. The students with distinction from NSS cadre have brought laurels to the college by participating in national and international meet. Many of the NCC students have been recruited in the different wings of armed and paramilitary forces on the strength of having B and C certificate in NCC from this college. The Career Guidance Cell under the supervision of a faculty member provides very good service to the students. Many students from the college have now occupied important positions in the society. The college has a very powerful Career Development and Placement Cell which has romped in national & international corporates for on-campus placements. The college has produced excellent results from year to year. The Alumni Association of the college is active, and members meet every year. With regards to financial aid to students, besides administering scholarships to SC/ST/BCs, the college ensures the provision of scholarships to those who are meritorious, but in need of financial help. The Co-curricular Activities Cell is well organized and manages to help the students to develop their talents and creativity. The praise-worthy feature of the college is that it has signed several Memoranda of Understanding for training and placement of students. A faculty member from the Department of Physics was awarded with teaching fellowship at USA . Some faculty members from the college have published papers in the leading journals and books. It is an essential part of the college culture to organize quizzes, competitions, and exhibitions, involving students every year and students learn and gain a lot by participating in these activities. As a matter of fact, many students from this college have won shields, trophies, awards, medals and other insignias that are proudly exhibited in the college foyer. With the introduction of the New Education Policy, the complexion of Higher Education is changing fast. With the expansion of knowledge, more subjects and more avenues are opening up for the students. The Career Development and Placement Centre has been established to help the parents and the students to discuss the implications of various branches and faculties best suited to the natural abilities and aptitudes of the students. It also provides information to the students in the latest emerging opportunities in the professional and non-professional sectors after Graduation and Post-Graduation. This center arranges career guidance, on campus interviews, and possible placements for the outgoing i.e. final year UG and PG students.

Besides a basic infrastructure needed to run this type of institution, on an area of 15.59 acres with lush green campus, a sprawling Playground, multistoreyed campus building housing Arts Block, Science Block, Commerce Block and Post-Graduate Block.

The college has five Computer Labs,one Electronics Lab, three Chemistry Labs, one Microbiology Lab, three Physics Labs, two Zoology Labs, one Botany Lab, one Biotechnology Lab, one Home Science Lab and two Geography Labs. We also have a Zoological museum.

There is a well stocked library consisting of about 65000 books including a vast collection of old, rare and relevant books of all types of knowledge be it scientific, literary, business, general awareness, competition, employment information and so on. A new air-conditioned Conference Hall with audio-visual facilities has been built to hold seminars, workshops, group discussions and lectures.

The College has established Edusat in the old Conference Hall. The College has a full fledged teachers’ colony consisting of 14 flats. Accommodation has been provided to the non-teaching faculty in the newly built housing complex where eight one room sets have been built.  Two separate Sports Complexes have been built for providing indoor and outdoor facilities. The college has its own Basketball Complex, Hockey arena and Indoor Badminton Hall. RoutineUniversity and InterUniversity games are periodically held in its vast playgrounds and the students are groomed to become the stalwarts of sports. The famous Cricketer Chetan Sharma has been a proud product of this College.

The college library has a well organized computer based books management system.

An internet facility of  high speed broadband  is available in the library as well.

The college has an adequate power backup system of silent DG sets of total 63+20 kVA.,
