Municipal Arts and Commerce College - MACC Rajkot - MACC

The institution has quite a long history of 51 years with steady and continuous growth despite its certain limitations. Since its inception in 1961, it has been engaged in the task of imparting higher education to the people of Upleta Tehsil and its surrounding area right from first year Graduation level to the final year of the Post Graduation level. It had been the first college at Tehsil in the whole Saurashtra region when it got established. The college has left behind it the glorious past with regard to the quality of education, student strength, quality of teachers, sports activities and the quality students it has given to society, but with the emergence of colleges in the areas nearby, in the concluding phase of the 20th Century, the student strength went on dwindling, with the passage of time, once creating the problem for survival. The college, in the recent past few years, has been back to its past glory step by step. At present it is passing through a period of transition. Despite the problems of lenient funding, acute shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff, State Government’s drastic cuts in the recruitment policy of new staff the institution has made its way in the midst of these adverse conditions and limitations the college functions with a considerable success from academic and administrative points of view. The institution is academically and administratively sound with good and competent staff. Though administrative wing is the worst affected facet of the college in view of the new situations. Due to the new education policy of the Government and the continuous rise in student strength during the last few years, the administrative work has rapidly grown beyond limits. To cope with the ever increasing requirements of keeping records up to the mark the college management has appointed 01 Head Clerk and 01 Accountant. The college has 14 lecturers, 02 part timers, 04 with fix salary and they are paid from the college fund.Coming to infrastructural facility, the college owns 16 acres of land, with Botanical Garden, and number of fully grown trees along the road and sub-road. The old building has been demolished and the work of new infrastructure is on the verge of completion at the cost of more than 3 crore Rs. Many future plans and projects have been delayed due to these obstacles.

With regard to learning resources, the college has an advantage of having a rich and specious library at the old college building for its students and faculty. It has nearly 28000 physical books on various branches of knowledge for the benefit of the students and the staff. Though the college is crippled by the acute financial crisis it constructed a separate library building out of UGC grant and college fund.
